To Florida families with children starting back to school soon…
COVID-19 cases in children are real, they are increasing, and the pediatric units in our hospitals are filling up. Some of these children have underlying conditions, some don’t.
All children deserve to go to school in a safe environment.
Wearing a mask isn’t just to protect ourselves, but also to protect those around us.
This isn’t political. This is coming from a physician and mom, who wants to keep our children safe.
The American Academy of Pediatricians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the CDC all support students wearing masks in school.
My kids did it last year, had no problems in a mask, and for once weren’t home sick with colds every other month. They will be wearing their masks again this year.
Please, send your kids to school with a mask, tell your friends to do the same. If your kids are sick, keep them home. Finally, write to your schools, school board, governor, whoever you can think of to ask for support to keep our children safe. Our voices matter.
