Earlier this year, Oroville Hospital announced its inaugural Psychiatry Resident Class. Since the program kicked off in July, residents have been hands-on, developing the skills and confidence to navigate the realities of psychiatric care and have made a tangible impact in the community.

The residents have been focused on providing quality care to patients with neurological diseases, understanding the critical link between neurology and psychiatry, attend bedside clinical teaching and didactic teaching.

With daily supervision, they manage acute psychiatric crises and provide emergency psychiatric care in both clinic and emergency department settings, gaining experience with various urgent psychiatric presentations, including substance abuse problems, psychoses, adolescent mental disorders, psychiatric trauma and crises.

As a Pulmonologist and Critical-Care Physician at Oroville Hospital, Dr. Sidharth Bagga covers a wide range of lung diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD can be a devastating illness, and unfortunately it is one of the most common lung diseases.

“Most patients with COPD that I see have a combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema, which involves destruction of the lungs over time. Some of these illnesses are inherited, some come to us by chance, like pneumonia, others we get from our own choices,” said Dr. Bagga.

Because many of his patients suffer from smoking-related diseases, he is a true advocate for preventative medicine. "My passion for prevention began early in my career, and I still believe it can the best medicine. Breathing is simple, and that’s the way it should be."
