Today is World Tuberculosis Day! Tuberculosis, or TB, is a serious disease, but it’s both preventable and curable.

TB bacteria can live in the body for months or even years without causing symptoms. This is called latent TB infection (LTBI), sometimes known as inactive or sleeping TB. People with LTBI can take medicine to prevent illness and death from TB disease. Talk to your health care provider about getting tested.

Butte County Public Health was notified of a helmet recall that may affect helmets distributed in our community in 2022. If you or your child has a ProRider helmet, please take a moment to check whether it is included in the recall. If your helmet has been recalled, please stop using it immediately. Cut the chin strap and dispose of the helmet.

How can I determine whether my helmet is part of the recall?

• Visit the ProRider website (www.prorider.com/org/recall-information) for RECALL INFORMATION, or the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website (www.cpsc.gov)
• Inside of the helmet, look for a sticker with a manufacturer's date. If the date is 2022, it is part of the recall.
• If you have a recalled helmet, visit www.prorider.com/org/recall-information and follow directions provided under the title “Remedy.”

**After 5 years, helmets deteriorate and should be replaced regardless of any recall**

Pet Poison Prevention Week (observed every March) is a reminder to protect our pets from everyday hazards hiding in plain sight. Curious noses and paws often explore things they shouldn’t — and many common household items can be dangerous or even deadly.

Prevention Tips:
✔ Keep medications and chemicals in locked cabinets
✔ Store food safely out of reach
✔ Read labels before using products around pets
✔ Supervise pets outdoors
✔ Save emergency numbers in your phone

For a list of foods, plants and products that may be harmful to your pet, visit the ASPCA Poison Control website: tinyurl.com/mr2s2r9s

Biking is a fun and healthy way to get around, but safety matters. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says biking leads to more sports-related emergency room visits for brain injuries than any other activity.

A few simple steps can help keep you safe on the road and help prevent brain injury:

• Wear a helmet every time you ride
• Use lights or reflectors if you’re riding at night
• Ride in your lane and follow traffic rules
