Lorie and I attended the Missouri State Beekeepers Association fall conference Saturday in Blue Springs, Missouri. Lots of great sessions and great speakers! Hopefully we can absorb all the information we learned and be ready to learn more this coming Saturday at the Iowa Honey Producers Association fall conference at Prairie Meadows!

Mixed 100lbs of sugar today to make sugar syrup to feed bees. I have had to feed a lot this fall because they just don't have the reserves built up for winter. I don't normally feed in the fall but this has been a tough year. Harvested half the amount of honey as anticipated and feeding in the fall because of the rains the last half of the summer.

Finished cutting and assembling 28 bee escapes today!
For those that don't keep bees or are newbees, these will be placed on the hives between the brood boxes and supers a few days before I pull the supers to extract the honey. They work like a funnel trap. The bees follow the maze out of the supers into the brood chambers. If I pull the supers in a few days, the bees won't have enough time to figure out how to get back in the supers. Less bees to contend with when I remove the supers full of honey to extract.
