A dilated eye exam is simple and painless, but very important in the detection of vision problems. During your exam, your doctor will check for vision problems that make it difficult to see clearly. Then, your doctor will place drops in your eyes that will dilate (widen) your pupil in order to check for eye diseases.
Because many eye diseases have no symptoms or warning signs, you could have a problem and not even know it. A dilated eye exam is the only way to know for sure, that your eyes are healthy.
