As adults, we often have to re-learn what we once knew. There is no better, faster way to do that than to watch and learn from the best teachers of all, our children.
It seems everyday my boys remind me to open my mind, to not see the world as I saw it yesterday.
We went out to dinner the other night, music was playing in a different language, the boys immediately danced to the beat. I watched them, realizing that as adults we would usually wait, try to figure out what band is playing, remind ourselves if we like that band or not, and only if we liked it in the past will we enjoy listening to it now. We rob ourselves of the joy of experiencing each day in a fresh new light.
How often have you heard someone say, “No, I don’t like country music. No, I don’t like cauliflower.” How do they know this? Have they heard every country song, tried every cauliflower recipe that there ever was on this very day...through fresh eyes?
Each day is a new day with the possibility of new feelings, insights, joys, ideas, discoveries.... IF and ONLY IF, we allow for it.
