This year marks a turning point in family holidays. Until 2020, I spent every Christmas in this house celebrating with friends and family. We created some new traditions on the farm that have become equally fun and memorable, but the farm, being in the middle of nowhere, has its limitations for visitors on Christmas.

The turning has come with the new lady of the lakehouse, . She has seamlessly put together two boisterous and blended families twice now. The food, laughter, and shenanigans are all back under the lakehouse roof for Christmas, and I couldn't be happier. Nick and Tawni are officially 💍 carrying on the 4th generation of Christmas Eves at the lakehouse, Steve and I will be the keepers of Winter Solstice and the woodland wasail here at the farm.

Every year near Solstice, we host a woodland wassail. We had a big group of hardy folks come and eat, drink, and merrily walk through the forest, celebrating the return of the light.

We also had dogs decked out in glow stick necklaces.

Beaver lodge to the right. These guys have lived here for years now. We balance their water levels when needed. This year, we are very grateful for their hard work and engineering abilities. They retained much needed water on the farm after a very dry and hot summer. They are taking down the scrub willows and storing them underwater before the ice is too thick to bust through.

Last super moon of the year is today! Let's hope the skies stay clear tonight and welcome old fashioned Michigan winter of my youth. It's been too long, and I missed you!
