Youth Health Advocate Program

Youth Health Advocate Program YHAP aims to bring awareness about HIV/AIDS and other STIs, end the stigma, & provide resources.

Youth Health Advocates are youth in the community who have taken the time to educate others on HIV/AIDS related information under the YHAP grant. (Youth Health Advocate Program) This includes STD/HIV testing, transmission, prevention, and care. Advocates work closely with an HIV Mobile Testing unit to ensure everyone in Oswego County has access to testing and provide outreach county wide.

YHAP staff attended the World AIDS Day and Ending the Epidemic Summit at the Albany Capital Center!! On December 9th and 10th, we had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions, learn about current research from poster presentations, listen in and ask questions during panels, talk to other providers throughout the days of attendance and during tabling, and so much more! We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to attend this event and meet with other providers who share values/goals related to HIV prevention and treatment! ❤️

Hosted by the New York State Department of Health, this year's theme was "One Journey. One Community. One Mission to End Epidemics."

❤️ December 1st is World AIDS Day, an international awareness day addressing important and relevant subjects relating to HIV/AIDS. This day educates on prevention and treatment options for HIV/AIDS, advocating for destigmatizing and highlighting HIV/AIDS related topics, as well as being a day of remembrance for the lost lives of those who died of AIDS related complications ❤️

In honor of this day, as a symbol of support for those impacted by HIV/AIDS, and in support of HIV/AIDS advocacy work, red ribbons are worn, which the YHAP team will be giving out at various events throughout the month of December ❤️
