Perimenopause is not the beginning of the end, women!

You have heard about it all...

Hair thinning and graying
Change in body fat percentage
Shift in body fat distribution
Decreasing of skin elasticity
Eyesight changes

It is all enough to make anyone ask - is this the beginning of the end?

Women are taught to fear our bodies. Our bodies are not trustworthy or safe.

Our bodies will betray us.

The messages about women’s bodies from the toxic over-culture plant the seeds of self-hatred from the time we are young girls. Much like how pregnant women are taught to fear their bodies during pregnancy and mistrust their postpartum instincts, we are taught to fear the natural changes that happen to us during perimenopause and menopause.

I work with women who would never *dream* of putting their teenage daughters on birth control pills to regulate their cycles and feelings, and who overcame their fears in pregnancy and went on to have natural childbirth, and yet something about perimenopause induces these same women to take outside medication and artificial hormones in an effort to stave off the unknown.

Bio-identical hormones are still artificial. Just because they are compounded in a pharmacy rather than mass-produced in a factory does NOT mean that they aren't pharmacologic drugs.

We don’t need more outside interventions to help us traverse this sacred ground of perimenopause & menopause.

We need to remember that our bodies are sacred, that we are safe...

and much like how we made our way through the transitions of becoming maidens and mothers, we can transition into our matriarch years gracefully.

I offer full-spectrum holistic women's healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky. Contact me now to book your first session to support your natural transition into perimenopause/menopause ⬇

The first week of August is World Breastfeeding Week! Why make such a big deal about breastfeeding? It has a ton of benefits for both mother and child. That includes lowering the baby’s risk of contracting certain health problems later in life, such as asthma, Type I and II diabetes, and obesity. Infants who are breastfed are also at lower risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Plus, it can help mom reduce the risk of ovarian cancer, osteoporosis, and heart disease, along with faster postpartum healing. If you have more questions about breastfeeding, talk to your WomanCare provider on your next visit.

Have you heard stories about the big hormonal rush that happens when you fall deeply in love with your baby in those moments immediately after birth?

Maybe you’ve seen it in the movies, or watched birth videos where mothers gaze intently into the eyes of their newborn and exclaim “I never knew I could love this deeply!"

Maybe that didn’t happen for you... Maybe you felt a little guilty, and wondered what went wrong?

There’s a physiologic blueprint for undisturbed birth. When a mother is left to birth naturally, without artificial hormones and timelines, that rush of oxytocin floods through our bodies and can make those dream moments come true.

When we have been given synthetic hormones, such as Pitocin, or we're subjected to medical procedures that are standard, every-day routine care in the hospital, the deep hormonal blueprint is altered, and that big rush of oxytocin may not ever come.

If you had a medicalized birth and then had difficulty connecting with your baby or experienced breastfeeding challenges - I am here to reassure you:

It’s no fault of yours, your body, or your baby.

I sit with women who desire healing from their medicalized births. I help you piece together your story and mend the wounds allowing you and your baby to move forward connected and whole.

If you are lying awake at night, thinking about your birth over and over again, wondering where things "went wrong"...

If you are wishing you had a different birth experience, but weighed down by the guilt of "all that matters is my healthy baby"...

If you feel spaced out, or disconnected, when you think about your birth...

It's time to get help.

I will hold space for you, as a loving wise woman, and a holistic, radical Obstetrician & Birthkeeper who can help you to understand your birth experience on a more empowering level.

Are you ready for something new?

I am.

For those who are new to Full Circle Holistic, welcome! ❤ I am Rebecca Cohen, an independent obstetrician and wise woman with a passion for traditional, authentic healing for women - particularly in the childbearing continuum.

And I am ready for a radical shift in my life, and my practice.

I recently graduated from the Freebirth Society's Radical Birthkeeper School with Emilee Saldaya and Yolande Clark ✨

Now that my kids are older, I have been pondering what my return to birthwork will look like. Little did I know, that the RBK school would inspire me so deeply to clarify my path forward. I am bursting with new ideas, visions, and desires to serve pregnant and birthing women here in Louisville, and virtually from afar.

You might notice that things look a little different in these upcoming months as I shift into the rollout with new offerings, classes, witnessing birth in power, and more.

You can even expect a new office space - coming this fall! 🍂

Stay tuned for updates on my practice and the beautiful changes coming forth in Full Circle Holistic, by joining my e-mail list at 🌿fullcirclelouisville.com 🌿

I can’t wait to take this journey into Radical Birthkeeping together. ❤

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but attachment parenting in a detached society is exhausting.
No. It’s not your baby.
There is nothing wrong with them if they want to be held all the time.
No. It’s not you.
You’re not doing it wrong.
Your feelings of exhaustion and depletion and being touched out are normal- considering the weight you’re carrying. Those feelings, and the deep ache underneath them - are a reminder that you were never meant to do this alone.
Babies want to be held. And we want to hold them close. Exclusive/extended breastfeeding, cosleeping, babywearing- all of these are intuitive, ancestral practices that have kept our species alive throughout history. Attachment parenting is just parenting!!
But never before have we parented in such isolation. There were always other hands stirring the soup pot, other aunties, and sisters, and uncles and grandmas, and cousins, and neighbors helping with the daily tasks and child rearing. Other arms carrying the weight of raising humanity. Together.
And now, it’s just you. Alone in the kitchen, trying to stir the soup and bounce the baby and play with the toddler and keep an eye on the big kid and answer the phone and sweep up the mess and tackle the laundry and .....
No matter how magical your baby wrap is — it can’t take the place of a whole village.
So no, you’re not doing it wrong. You’re just trying to stay connected in a world set on tearing you apart.
But don’t give up mama. I know you’re tired and touched out, but you’re giving your baby exactly what she needs. And maybe one day, when she’s raising her own babies, there will be a village around her, helping her hold it all together.
