A great win for the respiratory care profession!

📣 The Respiratory Care Interstate Compact (RCIC) is official with the passage of the 7th and 8th states today!

AARC, in collaboration with the Council of State Governments (CSG) and the Department of Defense (DoD), is proud to announce the formal launch of the RCIC, which now establishes the Respiratory Care Interstate Compact Commission. This initiative marks a new era for the respiratory therapy profession, streamlining licensure across state lines to improve patient care and address critical healthcare staffing shortages.

We are absolutely, unequivocally, and perhaps even unnecessarily thrilled to formally, officially, and ceremoniously unveil our brand-new logo and freshly reimagined name to each and every one of you. After countless hours of deep reflection, spirited discussion, several cups of coffee, and at least one moment where someone said, “What if we just go all in on being cool?”, we have arrived at a decision that feels as bold as it is inevitable.

Effective immediately (and by immediately, we mean right now, as you are reading this very sentence), we are proud to announce that we are now operating under the distinguished and undeniably impressive name: The National Board for Really Cool People (NBRCP).

As a duly self-appointed, highly selective, and extraordinarily cool Board of Really Cool People, we plan to continue our mission with even greater enthusiasm, amplified confidence, and a slightly more stylish font. Our initiatives will include, but are certainly not limited to, recognizing peak coolness in its natural habitat, fostering an environment where cool ideas can thrive, and occasionally nodding in approval at things we deem “nice.”

We appreciate your continued support during this exciting, groundbreaking, and frankly very cool transition. Stay tuned, things are about to get even cooler. And if you've read this far... 😉

Excellence defines us

NBRC credentials provide recognition for hard work and dedication to quality. Success brings respect among colleagues and instills a sense of pride in those who earn the NBRC badges of distinction. Why? For the same reason all 49 states regulating the profession recognize NBRC examinations as standards for state licensure: success requires exceptional knowledge and competency. Our NCCA-accredited examinations—which are developed by respiratory care professionals and predictive of job performance—provide the opportunity to prove readiness for excellence in patient care.
