As we approach MLK Day on January 19, we're reflecting on Dr. King's impact on how we now view the connection between racial justice and health access. In 1966, he famously commented on federal funding and its disproportionate effects on health due to segregation:

"We are concerned about the constant use of federal funds to support this most notorious expression of segregation. Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman because it often results in physical death. I see no alternative to direct action and creative nonviolence to raise the conscience of the nation."

Equal access to health, which includes mental health, is fundamental and necessary to all people. While we still have a long way to go before we reach equality in healthcare, we can challenge ourselves to shine a light on these issues, continuing the conversation on how we can all do better and then take action to increase access to health.

We are wishing you all a holiday season filled with peace, joy, and meaningful time with those who matter most. As the year comes to a close, we’re especially grateful for our expanding IPC team of providers and staff.

This year, IPC added 27 new psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and clinical therapists to the team, plus additional administrative staff to support care delivery.

To our IPC team—thank you for your compassion, dedication, and partnership in serving patients and communities. And to our partners, thank you for your continued support and for all that you do in your communities to improve access to mental health.
