We talk a lot about being “Board Certified.” So what exactly does that mean?

In the United States, this certification comes from the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) — the only board recognized to certify physicians in the full spectrum of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Not all “cosmetic surgeons” are plastic surgeons.
Some physicians from other specialties can legally perform cosmetic procedures — but they may not have completed formal plastic surgery training.

You can always check the ABPS website to find out if the surgeon you are researching is board certified.
