I practice Neuromuscular Therapy to address and treat pain, and have been successful in treating complex conditions. The Neuromuscular Therapist follows a protocol in their approach to the body structure:

• Locate and eliminate spasms, hypercontracted musculature and trigger points.

• Restore postural alignment, proper biomechanics or movement patterns.

• Restore flexibility and increase blood flow to the tissues.

• Rebuild strength of the injured, weak, and/or atrophied tissues.

• Build endurance of the tissues for permanent results. Neuromuscular Therapy is utilized to address five elements that cause pain:

1. Ischemia: Reduced blood supply to soft tissues which causes hypersensitivity to touch

2. Trigger Points: Highly irritated points in muscles which refer pain to other parts of the body

3. Nerve Compression or Entrapment: Pressure on a nerve by soft tissue, cartilage or bone

4. Postural Distortion: Imbalance of the muscular system resulting from the movement of the body off the longitudinal and horizontal planes

5. Biomechanical Dysfunction: Imbalance of the musculoskeletal system resulting in faulty movement patterns (i.e., improper lifting habits, poor mechanics in a sporting activity, computer keyboarding)

Neuromuscular therapy is utilized to restore balance to the body structure afflicted with (but not limited to) the following conditions:

• Headaches (Tension, Vascular, Endocrine imbalance)
• TMJ Syndrome / Tinnitus
• Torticollis / Dystonia
• Trigeminal Neuralgia
• Bell’s Palsy

On a walk yesterday, I took a pic of the flowering of the American Sycamore - strangely resembling the microscopic image of a Covid 19 cell. Even more fascinating is the fact this tree has been used by Native Americans medicinally for respiratory and digestive issues 🤔

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF MUSCLE SPASM?

Muscles have tensile strength, which means that they can get stretched to an extent, which makes movement easy. However, in certain cases, if the muscles are stretched beyond their capacity, it can result in small tears or strains. This can cause muscle spasm or tight contraction of the muscle.

When a muscle gets overstretched due to overuse, falls, blows or injuries, it can result in small tears in the muscle. This can cause an inflammatory reaction, resulting in swelling in the area. The muscle, in order to prevent further damage and to protect the surrounding body parts, gets tightened. This results in pain and discomfort when the muscle is used or the part is moved. It actually protects the inner delicate structures as it prevents further movement of the area, so that healing can occur.

Normally, muscle spasm due to overstretching, recovers within few days or weeks. However, if it lasts long, the cause of muscle spasm may be an underlying condition, which needs attention. Serious injuries or conditions affecting the spine or the joints can cause severe or repeated muscle spasm.

Feet wrecked by 'normal' shoes vs. healthy feet.

On the left, Big Toes are already pushed inwards, weakening the whole foot’s form, function and movement ability.

Healthy feet have toes that splay, a strong Big Toe and a flexible arch and ankle. Keeping feet bare helps develop healthy feet (like those on the right).

'Normal' shoes can also dull the sensory feedback brains can get from the abundance of nerve endings in the foot. Bare feet help keep these sensory pathways sparking and active.

95% of kids are born with perfect feet. Less shoe and more movement keeps them that way!
