This month, Margrit chose Olive Garden for our Memory Support lunch outing! Her friends and neighbors were thrilled with her choice, and she couldn't stop smiling all day in anticipation of the outing. We absolutely LOVE creating these special moments for our residents and their families, too. The residents had a great time socializing with friends from different neighborhoods, and the bus ride back was an unforgettable sing-along experience as we sang along to some classic songs. Our residents are truly wonderful, and our team enjoys spending time with them in the community as well. 😁 🍝 🥖

Thanksgiving preparations are under way in the Village for our annual Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner! We had students from Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy (HBHA) stop by to help us work on folding the hundreds of napkins that will be needed for the event. 🦃

Our 3rd Annual Friendsgiving Chili Cookoff results are in! This year our team members brought some delicious competition with their best chilis on the table and maybe even their favorite crockpots, too. 😋

At Village Shalom, every act of giving carries forward more than support—it carries legacy. 💛

This Giving Tuesday, we’re celebrating the families whose generosity is shaping our Ages of Excellence Campaign. One of those families is the Himmelsteins, who have stood beside Village Shalom for more than 25 years.

Their story reminds us that excellence is built one generation at a time. From Harry’s grandmother’s involvement with the Shalom Geriatric Center decades ago to Harry and Gail’s longtime leadership, caring for older adults has truly become a family tradition.

Today, their son Paul, his wife Susan, and their children are proudly continuing that legacy—helping ensure future generations experience the compassion and dignity that define Village Shalom.

Employee of the Month - November 2025 is Haley Tinch!

Haley Tinch is our Executive Assistant and works closely with many different aspects of our Village. From the day she arrived in the Village, she has hit the ground running, she has lots of energy, is very reliable, and is involved in all aspects of the business. Haley has a village first mentality and puts the organization first. As Simon our CEO mentioned, WOW do you do a lot of different things around here. We are so appreciative of all your hard work and willingness to jump into any area that needs a hand. As our Employee of the Month and someone who goes above and beyond expectations to make a difference, Haley has been generously awarded a $650 check and is now in the running for our Employee of the Year Award in December.

There are SO many things to be THANKFUL for this Fall!! 🍂

Next time you stop by the Village check out our thankful trees located at the North Entrance & Parker House in Memory Support. Our residents and team members have been working hard on filling our trees with individualized leaves. Many of our residents have listed their friends, family, health, and other thoughtful responses on their leaves this year.

Rookie of the Month - November 2025 is Tony Boeninghaus!

Tony, a valuable part of our IT team and our system engineer. 😊 His supervisor Jim was happy to share that Tony has made a big impact in IT. He shared that Tony exemplifies all of the best qualities as an engineer being a problem solver at heart and always looking to improve our lives here in the Village. He is always willing to help anyone in need and has a hand in many of our behind the scenes projects. He is involved in our pilot programs as we work to improve our systems and Jim mentioned Village Shalom is better place with Tony here. As our Rookie of the Month and someone who goes above and beyond expectations to make a difference, Tony has been generously awarded a $150 check and is now in the running for our Rookie of the Year Award in December.

An awesome group of 8th grade students from HBHA traveled to Village Shalom to play chair volleyball with our residents. The students were kind, polite, supportive, and all the things that fill your heart with joy! Everyone loved hearing the students cheer on the residents when they hit the ball hard or high "Ya Jerry!" "Way to go, Mickey!". We loved having all of these fantastic young people here in the Village spending time with our seniors. What a fantastic Mitzvah Trip, everyone had such a fun time!!
