A little swirl, a little sip, and a whole lot of great conversation 🍷

Our Independent Living Wine Club is all about exploring the world of wine—one tasting at a time. Some months take residents to a specific region, others dive into unique bottlings or spotlight different grape varieties. No two gatherings are the same, but each one brings something new to learn and enjoy.

From bold reds to crisp whites, it’s more than just wine—it’s an experience of culture, connection, and discovery shared among friends. Cheers to good company and even better stories!

A taste of tradition in our Culinary Judaics Academy 🍲✨

Residents gathered to watch and learn as CJA’s rosemary white bean soup came together—step by step—while enjoying a delicious sample along the way. From the aroma of fresh rosemary to the rich, comforting flavors, it was a wonderful blend of culture, storytelling, and shared experience.

Learning, tasting, and connecting—one recipe at a time. 💙

Residents couldn't get enough of Ashley Cooper today!! Love his energy!

Ashley Cooper brought the music—and the magic—to Village Shalom 🎶

From timeless tunes of the 1940s to beloved classics, Ashley had residents singing along, clapping, and fully in the moment. There’s something powerful about music that brings back memories, sparks joy, and connects generations—and today was a perfect example of that.

Moments like these are what make our community so special 💙

Sometimes it’s the simplest moments that turn into something unforgettable 🎶

Tuesday afternoon in Parker House, we welcomed our newest volunteer musician, Mike Beck—and what a debut it was. With years of experience performing in senior living communities, Mike brought more than just music. He brought connection.

From the first strum of his guitar, residents were tapping their feet, singing along, and fully in the moment. Between songs, Mike shared stories that made each tune feel personal—and then he took it a step further.

In a moment that had the whole room smiling, Mike “revealed” that one of our residents, Jim, had written a love song for his wife Carol—and he performed it just for her. Not long after, he did the same for Marilyn and her husband Cal… with a quick lyrical swap and a wink back to the first couple. 💛

The room was full of laughter, joy, and just the right amount of mischief.

We’re so excited to have Mike sharing his talent across our community. If today was any indication, he’s going to fit right in here at Village Shalom.

Some moments come full circle in the most meaningful ways 💛

At the opening of resident Janet Kummerlein’s latest exhibit in the Epsten Gallery, we witnessed something truly special.

The centerpiece of the collection—The Burning Bush—is a reprint of one of Janet’s most beloved works, originally created many years ago and sadly stolen. In a beautiful surprise, her son Marc had the piece recreated from a photograph and printed on a stunning 5-foot canvas. Seeing it again brought back a piece of Janet’s artistic story—and you could feel just how much it meant.

The evening was filled with residents, guests, and admiration for Janet’s extraordinary work in fiber art. One especially touching moment came when a resident arrived wearing a necklace she had purchased from Janet at an exhibit in the 1980s. Janet instantly recognized it—and was overjoyed to see her work still being worn and cherished decades later.

Art has a way of connecting us across time, memory, and community—and this was a beautiful reminder of that.

We had a bittersweet sendoff last week as we said goodbye to our incredible CAPS students from Blue Valley School District 💙

Over the past several weeks, they’ve brought energy, compassion, and curiosity to Village Shalom—building meaningful connections with our residents and truly embodying what it means to be everyday champions.

They wrapped up their time with us in the best way possible: a lively (and very competitive!) chair volleyball game with our residents in Memory Support. There was plenty of laughter, teamwork, and just the right amount of friendly rivalry 🏐

Thank you, CAPS students, for the joy you brought to our community. You’ve made a lasting impact, and we can’t wait to see all the ways you continue to make a difference.

Here’s to feeling good, looking great, and embracing these everyday moments of joy at Village Shalom 💙
