Sunday we were honored to welcome members of J-LEAD, an initiative of the Jewish Community Foundation, to Village Shalom for a meaningful day of service with their children. 💙

The visit was a hands-on opportunity to teach the next generation about giving back through time, talent, and resources. Families worked side by side to refresh The Little Village, our playroom for young children, by sanitizing, organizing, and preparing toys and equipment for future use.

The group also had the chance to experience the Mynd VR headset, made possible through J-LEAD grant funding, and see firsthand how it enhances engagement and joy for our Memory Support residents.

We were grateful to Kathy and Elliott Hollub for sharing a few words about life at Village Shalom and what community means to them.

Thank you to J-LEAD and the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Kansas City for investing in service, learning, and connection across generations.

We’re still feeling the kindness 💙

Earlier this week, Random Acts of Kindness Day was a reminder of what happens every day at Village Shalom—neighbors helping neighbors, friends lending a hand, and small moments of smiles and care making a big difference. From helping a resident when needed to taking time to check in, these acts of compassion are what make our community special.

Because kindness doesn’t end in a day—it’s part of who we are.

What’s a small act of kindness that meant something to you this week?

Let the good times roll! 🎷🎭

We celebrated Fat Tuesday at Village Shalom with a jazzy happy hour full of music, great company, and Mardi Gras spirit. Residents enjoyed lively tunes, festive treats, and plenty of smiles as we brought a touch of New Orleans flair to our senior living community.

It was a joyful way to celebrate together—because good music, good friends, and a little fun never go out of style. 💜💚💛

The annual Bettinger Brunch at Village Shalom is a cherished tradition for our Independent Living and Assisted Living residents in the Girson Social Hall. Hosted by longtime board member and dedicated advocate Dr. Irene Bettinger, and catered by NEXDINE Hospitality, this special event brings residents together for connection, conversation, and community.

This year, nearly 80 residents gathered this past Sunday to enjoy a delicious brunch while spending time with Dr. Bettinger, who takes great joy in getting to know each resident personally. Her warmth, attentiveness, and genuine interest in their stories make this gathering especially meaningful.

Events like the Bettinger Brunch reflect the heart of Village Shalom senior living, where relationships, dignity, and a strong sense of belonging are at the center of daily life. Our residents look forward to this annual celebration each year, and we are deeply grateful to Dr. Bettinger for her ongoing leadership, generosity, and commitment to our community.

✨ A Meaningful Moment at Shabbat ✨

Last Friday’s Shabbat service marked the beautiful unveiling of our new Friday Night prayer book—a project rooted in tradition, community, and generations of care. Residents and guests alike shared how meaningful it was to pray from the new book, expressing deep appreciation for its beauty, thoughtfulness, and connection to our shared heritage.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Lezlie Zucker, Rabbi Jonathan Rudnick, and Steve Cooper for their leadership and dedication in bringing this prayer book to life.

We are deeply grateful to Sharon and Stuart Pase and Rachel and David Sosland for generously supporting the printing costs. This gift lovingly honors Sharon’s parents, who funded Village Shalom’s very first Friday Night Shabbat prayer book—creating a meaningful bridge between past and present.

A special congratulations to Maddy Sokol, a student at Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy (HBHA) Brand Hebrew Academy, whose original artwork was selected by Village Shalom residents to grace the cover. Her design adds beauty, creativity, and youthful spirit to a sacred tradition.

Moments like these remind us that Shabbat at Village Shalom is enriched by community, memory, and shared purpose. 💙🕯️

💙 Thank You, B'nai Jehudah 💙

We are deeply grateful to and everyone who participated in their Giving Tree. Because of your generosity, our residents received thoughtful and much-needed items including water bottles, razors, toothbrushes, Alexa devices, and more.

These simple yet meaningful gifts support our healthcare residents in maintaining comfort, independence, and dignity—and serve as a powerful reminder that they are seen, valued, and cared for by our wider community.

Thank you for helping make everyday life brighter for those who call Village Shalom home. Your kindness truly makes a difference. 💫
