It commemorates the Jewish people’s journey from slavery to freedom in ancient Egypt—a story of resilience, hope, and the enduring pursuit of dignity.

This evening, residents and their loved ones will gather for the Seder, a meaningful tradition filled with storytelling, symbolic foods, prayers, and song. Together, they will retell the story of Exodus, share in familiar rituals, and celebrate the freedom that connects generations past and present.

At Village Shalom, moments like these are more than tradition—they’re opportunities to come together as a community, honor our heritage, and create new memories around the table.

Today we celebrated an incredible milestone — Rose Rovick’s 100th birthday! 🎉

Surrounded by close friends and family in the private dining room at Zest on Main Street, Rose’s celebration was filled with heartfelt moments. Guests shared cherished memories, favorite stories, and plenty of laughter — a true reflection of a life so beautifully lived.

We hosted a Drive-Thru Pizza & Wine event for the incredible social workers who show up every day with compassion, advocacy, and unwavering support. Your work doesn’t go unnoticed, and we’re so grateful for all that you do.

Game faces were on and the snacks were flowing in Assisted Living! 🃏🍿

Residents gathered for a fun round (or a few!) of Trash—the card game that always brings out a little friendly competition and a lot of laughs. From cheering each other on to celebrating those winning streaks, it was one of those simple moments that turned into something really special.

Of course, no game day is complete without snacks, and this group made sure to enjoy every bite in between hands.

Today, residents and staff came together to celebrate the Kansas City Royals home opener in the most delicious way—specialty hot dog lunches with all the ballpark favorites. From classic toppings to a few creative twists, it truly felt like we brought the stadium right to campus.

Sometimes the best moments are the ones you don’t plan 🐾💙

During a game of ball in our Memory Support neighborhood, we had the sweetest surprise visitor join in… a four-legged friend who was very interested in getting in on the fun.

What started as a simple activity quickly turned into laughter, smiles, and a little extra joy as this adorable pup tried to play right alongside our residents.

It’s moments like these—full of connection, spontaneity, and pure happiness—that make every day so meaningful. 🐶✨

Wednesday, we were honored to host a meaningful Dementia Support Group led by Kathi Spray, Certified Dementia Practitioner with Senior Helpers.

The conversation focused on the importance of embracing the changes that come with supporting a loved one living with dementia—an approach rooted in understanding, patience, and meeting individuals where they are in their journey. These moments of connection and shared experience are so valuable for families navigating similar paths.

Thank you to Kathy for guiding such an insightful and compassionate discussion, and to all who joined us.

Last year, we introduced something truly special into our Memory Support neighborhoods—our Tovertafel (ToverCare) program—and the impact has been nothing short of incredible. 💙

Through interactive light projections, residents are invited to play, connect, and engage in ways that spark joy, stimulate cognition, and bring meaningful moments of connection—whether it’s a simple game, a calming visual like a koi pond, or laughter shared with family and friends.

This innovation was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Kansas City and the support of Steven and Karen Pack. Because of them, we are able to continue enhancing quality of life for those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

We are so grateful to our community of donors who help us bring forward-thinking, person-centered care to life each and every day.

Welcome to Village Shalom—John style! 👀✨

Our amazing Volunteer Coordinator (and longtime Village Shalom staple), John, recently gave our newest team members a tour of campus. And if you know John… you know it wasn’t just a tour—it was an experience.

Between the history, the hidden gems, and a few stories we may or may not be able to verify 😉, our new employees got a true introduction to what makes this community so special.

One thing’s for sure: there’s no better way to learn Village Shalom than through someone who’s lived it, loved it, and probably has a story for every hallway.
