There are absolutely times and places where inductions are necessary and truly lifesaving — but your provider’s holiday schedule isn’t one of them.

In fact… did you know that the maker of Pitocin actually recommends against its use for elective inductions because the benefits don’t outweigh the risks?

Pitocin is the synthetic form of oxytocin, but when it’s used for induction it often creates contractions that are stronger, longer, and more intense than what your own oxytocin would naturally produce. This can lead to more discomfort for mama, often setting off a cascade of additional interventions.

And it’s not just mama who feels the difference. Baby experiences those tighter, more frequent squeezes too — with less time to recover between them — which can increase stress on baby’s system and lead to changes in heart rate or other concerns that require more monitoring or intervention.

So while yes, the holidays can feel chaotic and it might be tempting to choose a convenient date when your provider is guaranteed to be available…you deserve to be fully informed of your options, the true benefits vs. risks, and what’s actually best for you and your baby.
