BEWARE the DANGER of the GARDEN HOSE!!!
During hot summer days, dogs are often bathed outside with the hose. It is a great place to do it, however, each year, during the hottest days, we may see patients that have been burned by the hot water left in the hose that has been sitting out in the sun. A recent experiment showed that the temperature in both black and green hoses reached 120 degrees F with only 2 hrs in the sun at outside temperatures between 89 and 94. That is hot enough to cause scald injury, and this may not show up for several days to 2 weeks after the bath. So.....make absolutely sure to flush out all of the hot water out of the hose before rinsing off your pet!!!!!

VADC is currently enrolling dogs that are non-seasonally itchy (itchy all year round) in an 8 week long diet trial designed to help with itching. Dogs are eligible to be enrolled if they meet the following criteria:
1. Itchy all year round
2. Current on flea and tick prevention that also covers for mites (Examples: Bravecto, Credelio, NexGard or Simparica, Advantage Multi or Revolution)
3. Itch level is > 2 on a scale of 1 to 10
4. Patient has no other underlying medical conditions that require a prescription diet
5. Owners must have access to a phone with an app that will allow them to answer survey questions throughout the trial period

During the trial period, patients will be supplied a commercially available, limited ingredient, single novel protein food for 8 weeks.

The study is aimed at assessing the influence on overall skin conditions and GI signs as the 8-week diet trial is completed.
Various parameters will be measured during the trial period including itch level, skin lesions, medications needed to control itching, GI signs, quality of life, etc.

Approximately 4 visits in clinic are required over the course of the study. All visits, food, and medications required to maintain allergy symptoms will be compensated. Participating owners will receive a $200 gift card upon completion of the 8-week study.

If you have interest in enrollment AND your canine pet meets these criteria, please call our office at (913)-374-0777 to schedule an appointment. Let our staff know that you are interested in enrolling in the clinic trial and we would be happy to get you put on the schedule at our earliest convenience.
