There is something about reaching out and patting a dog on his head, scratching his soft belly, or looking into their sweet little eyes. And science agrees. The impact dogs have on humans is very real.
At Prairie Elder Care, we witness the magic regularly as residents engage with our therapy dog, Hank. He is a mini goldendoodle who loves nothing more than visiting and connecting with our residents, staff, day program clients, and the students in our community programs.
Studies show interactions for people living with dementia have several positive impacts such as increases in sense of wellbeing, curbs aggressive behaviors, sparks verbal communication, improves social connections, and triggers memory.
Dogs provide a natural, but powerful therapy. The benefits are positive and authentic. Our residents are proof of that♥️.
We sure do love our dog, Hank.
And as we pat his head and rub his ears, give him peanut butter crackers, and stare into his dreamy brown eyes; we know he loves us too.
