Meet Alicia Peery, our favorite (and only 😉) Rater here at Collective Medical Research 💙

With over 30 years of experience in mental health, Alicia brings compassion, expertise, and precision to every study she supports.

At CMR, she uses her clinical background to conduct interviews, assessments, and standardized testing for our mental health clinical trials — helping ensure high-quality, meaningful data that advances mental health care for our community.

Outside of work, you’ll often find Alicia enjoying a good mystery novel, planning her next getaway to the Colorado mountains, or spending time with her two spoiled cats, Colby and Willow 🐾

We’re so grateful for Alicia’s experience, care, and dedication to improving lives through research — we couldn’t do what we do without her!

Kindness doesn’t have to be grand to make a difference.

Even the smallest gesture can brighten someone’s day and boost mental well-being for both the giver and the receiver.

Research shows that acts of kindness release serotonin and dopamine, the brain’s “feel-good” chemicals, helping reduce stress, increase happiness, and strengthen connection with others.

Here are a few simple, free ways to spread kindness today (and every day):
💚 Share a genuine compliment
🚪 Hold the door for someone
😊 Offer a smile or kind word
🛒 Let someone go ahead of you in line
💬 Send a quick text to check in on a friend

You never know what someone else may be going through — a small act of kindness might mean more than you realize 💙

Let’s make today a reminder that compassion, empathy, and kindness are powerful tools for better mental health — for others and for yourself.

Today, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of our nation’s veterans — the men and women who have served to protect our freedom. Your strength and service inspire us all 💙

While the battles may end overseas, for many veterans, another fight continues at home. Conditions like PTSD, anxiety, and depression can affect mental and emotional well-being long after service — but it’s important to remember you don’t have to face them alone.

If you find yourself struggling, please don’t accept it as something you just have to “deal with.” Support, healing, and recovery are possible — and reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

This Veterans Day, let’s honor our heroes not only with gratitude, but with compassion and action. It’s our turn, as a community and a country, to stand by you. 🇺🇸

💬 Reach out to a friend, loved one, or mental health resource if you need support. You are never alone.

It’s a question many people don’t think to ask — but one that matters most!

Clinical trials follow strict safety protocols, and participant well-being is always the top priority.

Every study is backed by several layers of oversight to help protect you, including:
🔹 Principal and Sub-Investigators — licensed clinicians who monitor your health, progress, and safety throughout the study.
🔹 Clinical Research Coordinators and Monitors — ensure each visit follows the approved protocol and that all data is accurate, complete, and safely reported.
🔹 Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) — independent committees that review every study before it begins to ensure it meets ethical and safety standards.
🔹 Study Sponsors and the FDA — who regularly review safety data, audit procedures, and confirm that every site follows federal regulations.

Together, these safeguards ensure that your safety, rights, and well-being remain the top priority — every step of the way.

Clinical research isn’t just about advancing medicine — it’s about doing it responsibly, with you, not at your expense.

If you’ve been feeling “off” lately — tense, tired, or overwhelmed — your body might be signaling that stress is taking a toll.

Common signs of stress can include:
💤 Trouble sleeping or constant fatigue
💭 Racing thoughts or difficulty concentrating
😬 Increased irritability or anxiety
🍴 Changes in appetite
⚡ Headaches, muscle tension, or stomach discomfort

Healthy ways to manage stress:
🚶‍♂️ Move your body — even short walks or stretching can help release tension.
🧘 Practice mindfulness or deep breathing to calm your nervous system.
💬 Talk it out — connecting with a friend, therapist, or support group can make a big difference.
❌ Set boundaries — it’s okay to say no and protect your peace.
😴 Prioritize rest — quality sleep helps regulate mood and stress hormones.

Remember, stress is a natural part of life — but you don’t have to face it alone. Taking small, consistent steps to care for your mental health can help you feel more balanced and at peace 💙

With the end of Daylight Saving Time, the days get shorter — and sometimes, our mood can too.

If you notice a dip in energy, motivation, or focus this time of year, you’re not alone.

Many people experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) — a type of depression linked to reduced daylight that can cause fatigue, low mood, and trouble concentrating.

Here are a few mental health tips to help you navigate the darker months ahead:
💪 Stay active: If it’s too dark in the morning or evening, try an at-home workout or go for a walk during your lunch break for a boost of sunlight and fresh air.
🥗 Fuel your body: Focus on nutritious foods that help regulate mood and energy levels.
🧠 Check in with yourself: Notice how your mindset shifts — journaling or reaching out to a friend can make a big difference.
🤝 Reach out for help: It’s always okay to seek professional support if you find yourself struggling. You’re not alone in this.

Small steps can make a big impact on your mental well-being — especially when it comes to managing seasonal changes 💙

A little jump scare can be fun on Halloween… but when it comes to your mental health, fear and anxiety shouldn’t be your everyday visitors.

This spooky season, take a moment for a mental health check-in — and remember these fab-boo-lous reminders:
👻 Boo-lieve that change is possible — recovery and balance take time, but progress is real.
🎃 Dare to seek support — talking to someone you trust (or a mental health professional) can make a big difference.
🕷 Creep it real — be honest about how you’re feeling; it’s okay not to be okay.
📖 Conjure up a new hobby — creative outlets like art, journaling, or exercise can help redirect anxious energy in healthy ways.
✨ You are fab-boo-lous and deserving of care, rest, and joy — no tricks about it.
🍬 Treat yourself to some self-care — whether it’s rest, a warm bath, a walk, or quiet time with loved ones, little moments of care can go a long way.

Taking small, consistent steps for your mental health can be the most spook-tacular self-care of all 👻

🍽️ Struggling with episodes of binge eating? You’re not alone — and research is helping make new treatment options possible.

If you’re between 18–55 years old and live in the Kansas City area, you may qualify for a clinical research study evaluating a potential new treatment for Binge Eating Disorder (BED).

Some possible signs of BED can include:
1️⃣ Eating rapidly or more than usual in a short time
2️⃣ Eating until feeling uncomfortably full
3️⃣ Eating large amounts when not physically hungry
4️⃣ Eating alone or in secret due to embarrassment
5️⃣ Feeling guilt, shame, or distress afterward

✅ This is an outpatient clinical trial, meaning all study visits are done without hospital stays.

💊 Study-related care and medication are provided at no cost, and compensation may be available for those who qualify.

📞 Call 913-381-7180 to learn more or find out if you might be eligible to participate.

You’re not alone in this journey — and your participation could help pave the way for better treatment options for others, too 💪

Meet the Team: Rebecca (Becky) Thomas, Sub-Investigator at CMR

With 30 years of healthcare experience — and 15 of those at Collective Medical Research — Becky has been instrumental in advancing medical breakthroughs right here in Kansas City.

Throughout her time at CMR, she’s worked on more than 250 clinical trials in psychiatry, pain, and addiction, helping move research forward for the conditions that impact so many lives.

With a strong passion for addiction care, Becky also provides Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) — including Suboxone and Sublocade — through her Village Therapeutics practice, supporting individuals on their recovery journey.

Before joining CMR, Becky worked in surgery and recovery rooms — and today, she continues to bring that same compassion and expertise to every participant she helps care for.

Outside of work, you’ll find Becky diving into a DIY project or relaxing on a sandy beach 🌴

We’re so thankful for all she does to make CMR feel like home — for both our team and our participants! 💙
