Are you a new mom who has been feeling anxious, irritable or sad? Have you been struggling to bond with your baby? Perhaps you have been having distressing intrusive thoughts.

Today on the blog, I am talking all things postpartum anxiety and depression-- including symptoms and treatment options such as therapy, support groups and medication.

But if anything, I hope you take away that struggling with a perinatal mood disorder does not make you a bad mom and you are not alone šŸ¤

Oftentimes we hear about the ā€œbaby bluesā€ or the first 2-3 weeks after giving birth marked by mood swings and weepiness due to hormonal changes. But nothing prepares you for the intrusive repetitive thoughts, panic attacks, feelings of irritability and rage or difficulties bonding with your baby...

It will be such an honor to help registered interns grow into successful, ethical and compassionate licensed professionals. Just like it is important to empower our clients, I believe it is equally important to empower the future therapists in our field.

If you or someone you know is a registered intern in the state of Florida looking for a qualified supervisor, reach out or visit my website for more information.

Important announcement šŸ“¢

Empowered Wellness is moving to a new office space next month!

While it is bittersweet to be leaving The Serenity Center for the first time since opening my private practice in 2017, I felt it was finally time.

The good news is I will be staying close by in Oviedo off SR 426 inside A New Path Counseling’s office suite.

I am very excited for this new opportunity to get to share space with not only 1 but 3 amazing other women and moms in the mental health field with all of our own areas of expertise šŸ«¶šŸ¼

I look forward to seeing where this move and this new year takes me and my business. Here’s to change, growth + new beginnings in 2024 ✨

New blog post ✨

Since becoming a mom to my almost two-year-old daughter, I know firsthand how easy it is to get sucked into a spiral of negative and anxious thoughts. One minute I can be driving along listening to Taylor Swift and the next minute start worrying about what would happen if I got in a car accident. Or

This month marks ✨ S I X ✨ years since I started my own private practice.

To be honest I never knew I’d make it this far! Since 2017 I’ve accomplished so much—

I got my LMHC, completed kids yoga training, prenatal yoga training and my 200 hour yoga training. I’ve taken trainings on perinatal loss, perinatal mood disorders and DBT to name a few.

And while becoming a mom is my greatest accomplishment and priority in life, I look forward to a lot more exciting things to come for Empowered Wellness!

There’s nothing quite like going through infertility and loss (or any grief for that matter) during the holidays.

It can feel isolating like everyone else is happy and celebrating with the family they desire. This time of year highlights the one thing you are living without— a living child (or children for those with secondary infertility).

Whether you are going through a recent miscarriage or dealing with years of infertility treatments, getting through the holidays is no easy feat. But there are a few ways to make it a little more manageable.

1. Limit social media- seriously, turn off your notifications. Delete your apps. Whatever it takes to protect your heart.
2. Set boundaries- whether it is saying no to that holiday party or family gathering where there will be a bunch of little ones. It is okay to sit this year out.
3. Seeing holiday card after card can be so triggering. Do yourself a favor and ask your partner to open the mail this month.
4. While this time of year is notorious for spending time with loved ones. Make a point to set aside some time for yourself. A spa day, a vacation, or just a small treat (read peppermint mocha latte) is much deserved.
5. Last but not least, be selective about who you spend time with this holiday season. And if you must spend Christmas Eve with Aunt Susan who is sure to ask intrusive questions, make a game plan in advance with your partner— what you’ll say, when you’ll leave, etc.

If you are grieving a loss or losses, it can be a bring comfort to honor those babies in some way during the holidays. A stocking with their initial, lighting candles, an ornament šŸ‘¼šŸ»

And if you need extra support, reach out to a therapist or find a support group through .
