🎉Please join us in congratulating, School Crossing Guard (SCG) Larry Miller on his retirement. Sheriff Lemma honored Larry for his 13 years of dedicated service to the SCSO.

Larry was an exceptional member of our SCG unit and has earned many accolades throughout his career including have been named Crossing Guard of the Year three times and was also honored as the State of Florida Crossing Guard of the Year.

Beyond these accomplishments, Larry had served as a mentor and educator to many within our program. He had been an active member of our recruitment team, helping bring many new guards into the unit. Larry has also volunteered at countless events, is a Headgear Hero and Helmet Rodeo Certified, and has consistently gone above and beyond in serving the children and families in our community.

We wish you all the best in your new adventures! Congratulations and happy retirement! 🌟

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re proud to spotlight OCSO Legal Services Coordinator Selina Edwards and celebrate her 33 years of dedicated service to our agency and community. 💙

Selina plays a vital role behind the scenes in Legal Services—handling payroll, ordering supplies, directing calls, onboarding new personnel, and assisting with asset forfeitures and U-Visa/T-Visa certifications.

Selina began her career with OCSO in 1992 as a Program Instructor for the After School and Summer Program that later became known as B.A.D.G.E. (Becoming Achievers and Doers through Guided Education). After the program concluded in 2009, she worked in Judicial Process validating domestic violence injunctions before serving as the agency’s Foreign Notification Specialist. She later joined the Criminal Investigations Division as an Administrative Assistant I. After that she moved into Legal Services as an Administrative Assistant II, then a year later moved into her current role as the Legal Services Coordinator.

Over the years, Selina says she has seen the profession evolve.

“The biggest challenge working as a civilian woman in the law enforcement arena has been the idea that ‘if you aren’t sworn, you aren’t born,’” she said. “In other words, you didn’t matter and should be grateful for whatever you were given. I appreciate the fact that isn’t the case any longer.”

Selina also believes women bring unique strengths to the profession.

“Society sometimes says women are weak or soft, but it is that softness that makes us strong. We find ways to do things we typically don’t do, because women are innovators.”

She says Women’s History Month is an important time to recognize the many contributions women make to society—often without recognition.

“It’s important that not just women, but all productive members of society are recognized for what they bring to the world. Women have been doing what men do with very little fanfare.”
