Based upon 2024 Steele County census data, population estimates 37,413 of which 18.4% of the residents of Steele County are 65 and older, approximately 6,889 residents.

The fastest growing segment of Minnesota’s aging population are those people over the age of 85, who are most likely to need the support of family, friends, and the community to remain living independently.

With help and support when they have a problem, knowing what resources are available, matching them up with a volunteer that enjoys doing things they do, the volunteer can be their "go to" person. They have someone to accompany and take them to the doctor, to get groceries, review paperwork, help with things as needed; relieving the burden of caregiving, and in many cases, as the friendships develops, expanding into the caregiver role.

Needs Assessment and Referral

Individual needs assessments are done to help meet, create or connect to resources in order to fulfill needs that may arise in order to keep seniors residing in Steele County healthy, safe, and independent in their own homes. Our service team will help identify areas of daily life where support may be needed.

🤸 Fall Prevention Program: Stepping Forward with Confidence

Falls are not an inevitable part of aging, but they are the leading cause of injury for seniors. At Healthy Seniors of Steele County, we've made it our mission to empower older adults to remain active, safe, and independent by tackling fall risk head-on. Our comprehensive Fall Prevention Program uses proven, evidence-based methods to strengthen the body and reduce the risk factors in the home.

In-Home Fall Safety Assessments
The majority of falls happen at home. Our trained staff can visit your home to conduct a thorough Home Safety Assessment. We will walk through your living space to identify potential hazards, such as:

Poor lighting or hard-to-reach switches.
Loose rugs, clutter, or uneven thresholds.
The need for grab bars in the bathroom or railings on stairs.

We then offer practical, personalized recommendations and can connect you with resources for making essential modifications, ensuring your home is a safe haven, not a tripping hazard.
