Color Blast 5K

Color Blast 5K Presented by Independence Bank - A 5K to recognize the positive impact individuals with special needs have on our lives!

www.colorblast5k.org All proceeds go to 4 non-profits whose common mission is to support those with disabilities. Our Owensboro/Daviess County community is fortunate to have numerous organizations to help serve and enhance the quality of life of individuals with special needs, both young and old. There are four local non-profit organizations involved: Puzzle Pieces, Dream Riders of Kentucky, Team Karlie, and GRADSA who are collaborating together to host an event in Owensboro to honor individuals who have unique qualities and abilities. The city of Owensboro has graciously offered their help in planning this event. The Objective of the Color Blast 5K Event: Participants wear anything and everything WHITE and along the run/walk route, participants will be “BLASTED” with a safe and non-toxic COLORED POWDER at each mile marker and the finish line. The color fun continues to the After Party for music, crazy fun, and group color showers! We are encouraging families, schools, church groups, friends, and business groups to get involved in this non-competitive 5K event to have fun and support a great cause!

We have had a lot of questions about the Color Blast and will it be happening in 2023. The team that puts on the Color Blast decided that 2022 would be our last event, ending 10 years of Owensboro's most popular 5K. There is no doubt that the Color Blast was still just as fun as ever, and still a successful fundraiser for the nonprofits that put it on. But after 10 years, it is time to find new and exciting ways to celebrate disability awareness!

More than 17,000 people registered to run the Color Blast 5K in its 10-year history. Over 4,000 racers signed up for the first event in 2013, making it the largest 5K race in Owensboro history. The race raised more than $200,000 in honor of disability awareness, which was shared among six different nonprofits over the last decade. Those organizations donated nearly $20,000 to WHAS Crusade for Children in the event's span.

Thank you to the sponsors, participants and volunteers for making the Color Blast a fun and memorable event! All of the event's success is owed to you.

Our Story

Title Sponsor-Independence Bank. Our Owensboro/Daviess County community is fortunate to have numerous organizations to help serve and enhance the quality of life of individuals with special needs, both young and old. We are proud to present our 3rd celebratory fundraising event March 16, 2019 to support Ability Awareness in our community (March is Disability Awareness month). There are five local non-profit organizations involved: Puzzle Pieces, Dream Riders of Kentucky, Team Karlie, and GRADSA who are collaborating together to host an event in Owensboro to honor individuals who have unique qualities and abilities. The proceeds raised will benefit the six organizations who are contributing a portion to the WHAS Crusade for Children. Write it on the calendar, tie a string on your finger, or set a reminder in your phone whatever you do don’t miss the fun on March 21st!
