💙 Congratulations to Douglas Dotson, one of our Heart of Care award recipients!

Doug serves as a peer mentor in our MAT clinic and brings both professional knowledge and lived experience to his work, allowing him to connect with clients with compassion, respect, and understanding.

He consistently goes above and beyond for clients and coworkers. Recently, he stepped in within minutes to help a client facing eviction find resources and reassurance during a difficult time. This example is just one of many that demonstrate Doug’s willingness to go the extra mile to support clients when they need it most.

Thank you, Doug, for the heart and dedication you bring to our team and the people we serve every day. 👏

Join us in congratulating our President & CEO, Dr. Wanda Figueroa-Peralta, on being named a 2026 ATHENA Award nominee! ✨

Her leadership continues to open doors, create opportunities, and make a lasting impact across the communities we serve. We are grateful for the example she sets and the lives she touches!

A heartfelt thank you to Girls Inc. for recognizing her outstanding leadership and dedication. ❤️

🌟The ATHENA Award recognizes those who lead with excellence and empower others along the way. Today, we are honored to spotlight one of our 2026 ATHENA Award Nominees: Dr. Wanda Figueroa-Peralta 🌟

Dr. Wanda Figueroa-Peralta serves as President and CEO of RiverValley Behavioral Health and its affiliates, a multistate behavioral healthcare organization operating in Kentucky, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Texas. Under her leadership, the organization provides a comprehensive continuum of prevention, treatment, recovery, and crisis services in behavioral health. Throughout her career, advancing and supporting women has been a defining priority. Dr. Figueroa-Peralta views mentorship, opportunity creation, and equitable leadership development not as optional acts of goodwill, but as essential responsibilities of leadership. Her approach has been both personal and systemic - investing in individual women while intentionally building organizational cultures where women can lead, thrive, and advance. She has championed initiatives that expand leadership and STEM opportunities for girls, securing private partnerships to increase access to STEM programs, mentoring, and scholarships for high school students. Dr. Figueroa-Peralta was instrumental in opening The Amethyst Center for Women, a long-term residential chemical dependency treatment program serving women and their infants. She secured funding to establish Recovery Housing for Women across seven counties in Western Kentucky, providing recovery support, parenting and life-skills development, and employment assistance. She also led the expansion of Pearl Recovery Homes, a post-treatment housing program designed to support women and their children as they transition from structured care to independent community living. A signature initiative under her leadership is Roses for Moms, an integrated program that combines substance use treatment, behavioral health services, parenting support, peer mentorship, workforce readiness, and leadership skill development - empowering women not only to recover, but to rebuild and lead. She is actively involved and holds leadership positions in many local, state and national organizations, including Brescia University, American Hospital Association Policy Board, Owensboro Health Foundation, Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, Kentucky Association of Regional Programs, Kentucky Health Disparities and Equity Technical Advisory Committee, Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Treatment and Access, and Alliance for a Drug Free Owensboro-Daviess County.

Dr. Figueroa- Peralta’s work reflects a deep commitment to strengthening families, advancing women, and transforming communities. ❤️
