The holiday spirit made its way to Puzzle Pieces earlier this month thanks to the Estes Elementary School Choir, who stopped by on their Christmas Carol Tour! Their talented students filled our campus with festive music and shared handmade Christmas cards with every client and staff member — a gesture that meant so much to our team.

A special connection made the visit even sweeter: Choir instructor Chris Abell is the older brother of our very own Leah!

We are so grateful to Estes Elementary for sharing joy, music, and kindness with our Puzzle Pieces family.

A HUGE thank you to the Owensboro Truck And Toy Bash for choosing Puzzle Pieces as the recipient of this year’s toy collection! Instead of requiring entry tickets at a recent car show, participants donated toys — filling the event with kindness, purpose, and community spirit.

Because of their incredible turnout, our clients will enjoy an amazing variety of toys that support learning, play, communication, and joy across our programs.

To everyone who participated, donated, organized, or shared the event — thank you for making a difference. Your generosity goes directly into the hands of the individuals we serve, and the impact will be felt all year long.

Celebrating a BIG milestone for our friend Les! 🎉

Les has recently mastered identifying and reciting his home address and phone number — an essential life skill that strengthens safety, independence, and confidence. This achievement didn’t happen overnight. It took patience, consistency, and incredible dedication from his staff, who worked alongside him every step of the way.

We are so proud of Les and the progress he continues to make. These moments are the heart of what we do — empowering individuals with meaningful skills that support lifelong independence.

What may appear to be a simple craft activity is, in reality, a highly intentional part of our programming at Puzzle Pieces.

Each project is designed to strengthen specific skills such as fine motor development, hand–eye coordination, following multi-step directions, attention to task, and problem-solving. These structured activities help our clients build essential abilities that support greater independence in daily life — all within an engaging, creative environment.

Craft time is never “just crafts.” It is purposeful, skill-based instruction that promotes growth, confidence, and meaningful progress.

Every day, we get to witness moments of growth, connection, joy, and determination from the individuals we serve — and none of it would be possible without the families, staff, partners, and supporters who believe in our mission.

This time of year reminds us why our work matters: creating meaningful opportunities, building independence, and ensuring every person feels seen, valued, and included.

From adaptive equipment to community outings, social opportunities, and employment supports, we work every day to model what true inclusion looks like — not just for our clients, but for our entire community.

Next, we’re highlighting how our team uses positive behavior support to help individuals communicate, grow, and thrive.

Positive behavior support at Puzzle Pieces is focused on understanding, not correcting. Our Behavior Specialists work with clients to uncover the why behind behaviors and to teach functional communication skills that help individuals express their wants and needs safely and effectively.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all model — it’s individualized, compassionate, evidence-based support for both children and adults that improves quality of life and builds long-term success.
