Today I took my dog into the woods with the intention of sitting in stillness.
He had a very different plan.
While I tried to settle into meditation, his nose was alive with curiosity. The forest was speaking to him through scent, pulling him left, right, forward, and around again. Every step revealed something new to explore.
For him, sitting still would have been torture.
And in that moment, I was reminded of something important about forest bathing.
Nature doesn’t require us to experience it in only one way.
Sometimes forest bathing looks like quiet stillness under the trees.
Sometimes it looks like slow wandering, following what captures your senses.
Sometimes it’s the smell of the earth, the sound of leaves, the feeling of movement through the woods.
My dog wasn’t distracted.
He was fully engaged with the living world around him.
The forest invited me into stillness.
It invited him into exploration.
Both are forms of presence.
When we enter nature, the invitation is simple:
Notice. Breathe. Allow your senses to guide you.
The forest will meet you exactly where you are.
If you’ve been longing to slow down and reconnect with yourself through nature, I invite you to join me at the Cedar Cross Creek Retreat, where we will explore forest bathing, sound healing, meditation, and restorative mind-body practices in a peaceful natural setting.
Come experience what it feels like to truly be present in nature.
Spaces are limited.
Reserve your place and step into the healing rhythm of the forest. 🌿.
