Irish Moss is also known as sea and carrageen moss. Historically, the moss was placed under rugs for good luck and to bring fortune. It was also used during the Great Potato Famine because of it's high nutrient content. Until now, it lacked popularity because of it's association with the Famine. Currently in places such as Ireland, the USA, and Venezuela, it is commonly used to promote thyroid, digestive, and respiratory health.

With St Patrick's Day approaching I found it fitting to bring up the Celtic holistic lifestyle. They believed that all things contained a spirit and thus greatly appreciated plant medicine, particularly trees. Bilberry, Burdock, Nettle, Dandelion, Mistletoe, Willow, and Comfrey are among the herbs most used and those which are commonly found throughout Ireland.
