Time to Highlight some of the "extras" we do! We are going to highlight extra modalities we offer at Summit!

First up: DRY NEEDLING

🩹✨ Curious About Dry Needling?
Let’s break it down πŸ‘‡

Dry needling is a skilled therapy technique performed by our licensed physical therapists to target muscle tightness, trigger points, and pain β€” using a thin, sterile needle (with no medication injected, hence β€œdry”).

🎯 What It Can Help With:
βœ… Muscle knots & tension
βœ… Chronic pain
βœ… Sports injuries
βœ… Headaches & migraines
βœ… Sciatica, low back pain, and more

πŸ’‘ How It Works:
The needle is gently inserted into a tight or painful muscle, triggering a twitch response that helps the muscle relax and reset. It’s like hitting the β€œrefresh” button on your muscles! πŸŒ€
Patients often report:
βœ”οΈ Reduced pain
βœ”οΈ Improved mobility
βœ”οΈ Faster recovery

πŸ™‹ Is it the same as acupuncture?
Nope! While both use similar needles, dry needling is based on Western anatomy and neuromuscular science β€” and it’s designed to treat specific musculoskeletal issues.

πŸ“Want to see if dry needling is right for you? Ask your PT or give us a call β€” we’re happy to answer any questions!

DAY 5: SQUATS

πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈπŸ¦΅ Squats: The King of Functional Movement!
Whether you're picking something up off the floor or standing up from a chair, you're doing a squat β€” and the stronger your squat, the better your body moves!

πŸ’₯ Why We LOVE Squats in PT:
βœ… Builds leg and glute strength
βœ… Improves balance and joint stability
βœ… Supports knee and hip health
βœ… Boosts mobility for daily activities
βœ… Great for all ages and fitness levels

🧠 How To Do a Basic Bodyweight Squat:
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart
Keep your chest tall and core engaged
Lower your hips like you're sitting in a chair
Knees stay behind your toes
Go as low as your mobility allows β€” then rise back up
πŸ” Start with 2–3 sets of 10–15 reps

πŸ›‘ Need a modification?
βœ”οΈ Use a chair behind you for support
βœ”οΈ Hold onto a countertop
βœ”οΈ Don't go too deep β€” focus on control and comfort

DAY 4: HEEL and TOE walking

πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸ¦Ά Heel & Toe Walking: Small Steps, Big Benefits!

Looking to improve your balance, ankle strength, or walking coordination? Try adding heel and toe walking to your daily routine β€” a simple yet powerful exercise used in physical therapy for people of all ages!
πŸ”Ή Heel Walking
Walk forward slowly on your heels, toes lifted off the ground.
πŸ”Ή Toe Walking
Walk forward on your toes, heels off the ground, like a quiet ninja. πŸ₯·

🧠 Why It’s Great:
βœ… Strengthens ankle and foot muscles
βœ… Improves gait and balance
βœ… Helps prevent falls
βœ… Builds awareness of proper walking mechanics
βœ… Great warm-up or rehab tool

πŸ‘£ How To Do It:
Walk 10–20 steps on your heels
Then walk 10–20 steps on your toes
Do 2–3 rounds
πŸ›‘ Hold onto a wall or countertop if needed for safety

πŸ’‘ Pro Tip: Focus on posture and slow, controlled steps. It’s harder than it looks β€” and super effective!

08/06/2025

DAY 3: SINGLE LEG BALANCE

πŸ¦΅βš–οΈ Can You Balance on One Leg?
If not β€” don’t worry! It’s a skill you can train, and it’s more important than you might think.

🎯 Single Leg Balance is one of the simplest β€” and most powerful β€” ways to improve:
βœ… Fall prevention
βœ… Ankle and knee stability
βœ… Core and hip strength
βœ… Athletic performance
βœ… Everyday confidence (walking, stairs, uneven ground)

🧠 Try This at Home:
Stand on one leg with:
πŸ‘£ Bare feet
⏱️ Timer set for 30 seconds
πŸ™Œ Eyes open β†’ eyes closed (for a challenge!)
πŸ’ͺ Want to progress? Try reaching with your arms, standing on a pillow, or turning your head side-to-side.

πŸ›‘ If you’re wobbly or need to hold on, that’s OK! Use a counter or chair for safety β€” and practice a little each day.

DAY 2 of our movement challenge: PLANKS

πŸͺ΅πŸ’ͺ Planks: The Core Classic We All (Love to) Hate!
Think planks are just an ab workout? Think again!
This powerful full-body isometric exercise targets your core, shoulders, back, and even glutes β€” making it a go-to move in physical therapy and fitness routines alike.

βœ… Why We Love Planks:
Builds core strength & endurance
Supports a healthy spine
Improves posture & stability
No equipment needed β€” do it anywhere!

🧠 How to Plank with Purpose:
Start on your forearms (or hands), elbows under shoulders
Extend legs straight behind you, feet hip-width apart
Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels
Engage your core β€” no sagging hips or raised glutes!
Hold for 20–60 seconds, or as long as your form stays solid

πŸ”₯ Want to level it up? Try side planks, shoulder taps, or plank marches!

🚨 Form first! If you’re unsure about your plank form, ask our PTs for a demo or modifications.
