Trust His Process
I was making bread this morning, rolls for Christmas Eve dinner, and getting frustrated because the dough is too stiff. I spent all this time milling the flour, prepping the sourdough, timing it perfectly so it could be ready fresh for Christmas Eve dinner. I was working on a recipe by volume rather than by weight. As I was letting the dough autolyze, I went to God. I was mulling over the thought that I have always disliked the idea of being “pruned”. [“Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” John 15:2 ESV]. God showed me the bread that I was making, and how I was thinking of just running and picking up rolls at the grocery store today. He has promised never to do that to us. He wants us to mature and grow. When I expressed to him my fear that “pruning” will be painful, he gave me this verse: “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11 ESV. Trusting would not be immediately giving up on the dough and buying backup at the store. I have to trust Him, and that means trusting the process and His purpose. My dough may feel stiff but through kneading and rising, it will turn in to delicious dinner rolls.
I pray that in this time you also learn to trust in Him wholly and without reservations: without a “plan B”. Know that faith endures and never gives up. God is intimately with you this season and He knows what you need.
