It is important to know that if you are considering an epidural it will most likely affect your baby’s cognition after birth. Newborn can become very groggy from the FENTANYL or hydromorphone in the epidural. If you are considering an epidural, try to express some colostrum out of your breast before intense labor begins. Save it in a cooler so you’ll have it after birth increase your baby is having trouble latching on to your breast, believe me it’s better if your baby has your breastmilk (colostrum) non-formula!

It’s important to know that you have the right to request delayed cord clamping; even if you have a hospital birth. DDC increases blood volume and allows the placenta to continue delivering nutrients and oxygen to your baby. DDC also helps prevent iron deficiency & improves brain function in newborn. The risk of postpartum bleeding also decreases.
(1-2 minutes is recommended)

Very normal part of labor… beware of “Hospital staff” telling you that your labor has stalled and that you need Pitocin, especially if your at least 4-5cm already.
