Grateful Patient Connection: Heath Kelly

Heath Kelly came to the Emergency Department at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in November with chest pain and dizziness. The McCullough-Hyde Emergency Department team responded quickly. To stabilize Heath’s ventricular tachycardia, the team shocked his heart three times.

Heath was air-flighted to Bethesda North Hospital where he was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, a genetic heart condition where the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick. A defibrillator was consequently inserted.

“I want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff for saving my life. You never expect to be lying there on that table, but I sure was glad they were there when I needed them most. Their compassion and concern for me being a community member, went beyond just being a patient. We are lucky and blessed to have McCullough-Hyde in our backyard”.

Saying thank you is a meaningful way to make a great impact. The McCullough-Hyde Foundation’s Grateful Patient Connections program gives patients and families the opportunity to recognize a caregiver or team member who made a difference in your care or the care of a family member with a donation in their honor and/or a special note of thanks. Donations made through Grateful Patient Connections support the mission of the McCullough-Hyde Foundation through the purchase of specialized equipment for McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital.

For more information about Grateful Patient Connections, please contact Janet Shirley, Development & Special Projects Coordinator, at Janet_Shirley@TriHealth.com or (513) 664-3851. Donations may be made at www.TriHealth.com/MHMHFoundation.

McCullough-Hyde Team Member Spotlight: Jackie Woodruff

For more than 16 years, Jackie Woodruff has been a steady and compassionate presence at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, serving as a nurse in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Same Day Surgery. Her dedication to patient care and her deep-rooted connection to the community are qualities that deserve recognition and celebration.

Q: What do you love most about being a team member at McCullough-Hyde?

A: “It’s the care of community. I can address their physical, mental and spiritual needs. Patients are comforted when they see a familiar face, someone to share stories with and to have someone hold their hand during a time of apprehension. I love providing that connection.”

Q: If you could be anywhere right now, where would you be?

A: “I’d be in Florence, Italy or Yosemite.”

Q: What would your personal mantra be, or what defines your core values?

A: “Since COVID and because of my faith, I’ve learned to be grateful for three things today and three things from yesterday.”

“Power is the ability to do good things for others.” – Brooke Astor

This quote perfectly captures Jackie’s philosophy and the spirit she brings to McCullough-Hyde. Her work is a testament to the power of kindness, connection, and service.

About the Team Member Spotlight: To foster team building and strengthen the sense of connectedness throughout McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, the McCullough-Hyde Foundation publishes the McCullough-Hyde Team Member Spotlight. Each spotlight will highlight one of McCullough-Hyde’s dedicated Team Members, sharing their personal insights, professional journey, and the values that inspire their work. Through these stories, we celebrate the individuals who make McCullough-Hyde a place to Be seen. Be heard. Be healed.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) annually publishes its Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings. Star ratings reflect a hospital’s performance across five quality measures: mortality, safety, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care.

Healthcare consumers can search for specific hospitals and compare facilities based on key metrics to assess quality through ratings from 1-star to 5-star, indicating better performance over time. https://www.medicare.gov/care-compare/resources/hospital/overall-star-rating/.

We are so honored and proud to have been designated a 5-Star Hospital in 2025, placing us in the top 10% of hospitals nationally!

When Rolanda was overcome by symptoms of lightheadedness and sudden muscle weakness that left her unable to lift even a can of pizza sauce, she knew that something wasn't right, but she certainly wasn't expecting a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes.

"I had all the symptoms, but I was thinking, 'Nah, not me,'" said Rolanda first upon hearing the news.

Once she was able to process the changes, however, Rolanda has been managing her blood sugar and A1c with the help of her TriHealth doctor and dietitian, retaking control of her health and her life! Watch her tell her story on our YouTube page: s.trihealth.com/0keeNd
