Oxford Pregnancy Center: Supporting Moms, Dads, and Babies for Over 40 Years
For more than 40 years, the Oxford Pregnancy Center has served women and families facing unplanned and crisis pregnancies from its North Washington Street location. The historic building, once a mortuary in the 1800s, reflects Oxford’s past, but the center’s mission today is firmly focused on life and support.
Oxford Pregnancy Center is a non-profit, pro-life organization that hopes women will see the Center as a place of hope for themselves and their baby. Many women who come to the Center are navigating unexpected circumstances such as financial strain or unplanned timing. “We’re pro-life,” said Communications Coordinator Mary Chris Foxworthy, “but our role is to make sure that women understand the options they have and know they’re not alone.”
The center provides free medical-grade pregnancy testing, options education, and ultrasounds beginning at six weeks. Ultrasounds are encouraged even for women considering abortion, as they help determine whether a pregnancy is viable. “Without an ultrasound, you may not know if the pregnancy is viable,” Foxworthy explained.
There are many ways to reach out to the Center. Walk-ins are always welcome for pregnancy testing and education, with ultrasounds scheduled by appointment. Appointments can be made online, and a 24/7 nurse chat allows women to text or message with a registered nurse at any hour. “Some of our messages come in at two in the morning,” Foxworthy said. “When someone needs help right now, we’re there.”
If a woman chooses to continue her pregnancy, Oxford Pregnancy Center offers long-term support through mentoring and parenting classes for both moms and dads. Parents earn points through classes that can be used in the onsite boutique for babies. Support typically continues until the child is two years old. “We care about the baby before and after birth,” Foxworthy said, “and we care deeply about the moms and dads too.”
Funded entirely by donations, the nonprofit relies on the amazing community support provided throughout the year. After four decades in Oxford, the Center remains committed to walking alongside families during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.
