On this Veterans Day, we pause to honor those who have served — and the many forms that courage can take.

This statue was made to honor a mare known as Staff Sergeant Reckless, a Marine Corps war horse who served in the Korean War.

She wasn’t a symbol or a mascot — she was a soldier.

Reckless carried ammunition to the front lines and carried wounded Marines back to safety.

During the Battle of Outpost Vegas, she made 51 solo trips in one day, all under enemy fire. She was struck twice, but she refused to stop.

Her loyalty, heart, and bravery earned her the rank of Staff Sergeant — a distinction no other horse has received in the same way.

Her story reminds us that service and sacrifice are not always loud — sometimes they arrive quietly, on four hooves, simply doing what needs to be done.

To honor our veterans:
We are offering 10% off appointments booked before November 16.
Use code: RECKLESS10 when scheduling.
To every veteran, and every family who has supported them:
Thank you. We see you. We appreciate you.

This sweet mare is retired and deeply loved — her family simply wants her to be comfortable and to enjoy her days with peace and ease.

Recently, she developed a hoof abscess. The first image is a thermal scan taken after her DVM opened the abscess — the bright yellow area shows the concentrated heat and inflammation still present in the hoof.

After that, Peter Buchanan administered a full therapeutic session:
• Red light therapy to support circulation and tissue comfort
• Blue light therapy to support surface-level calming
• Cryotherapy to help reduce heat in the area

You can see in the final thermal image that the temperature in the hoof came down significantly — but the most meaningful change wasn’t on the screen.

As the abscess began to drain, this beautiful girl — who had not eaten for almost two days due to pain — quietly walked over to her hay and grain and began to eat again before Pete even left the barn.

Sometimes the biggest wins are the small moments:
A sigh.
A softened eye.
A return to food.
Comfort returning to the body.

She is safe.
She is loved.
And she is feeling better.
