KNOW YOUR ABCs
If you’re dealing with diabetes, you need to understand the ABCs. No, it's not the alphabet; it's a simple framework that can help you manage diabetes and reduce your risk of serious future complications.
A is for A1C - This test measures your average blood sugar over the past three months. Your goal? Keep it below 7, and get tested at least twice a year.
B is for Blood Pressure - High blood pressure makes your heart work harder. Get it checked at every healthcare visit and set a goal that works well for you.
C is for Cholesterol - Keep your total cholesterol under 200 mg/dL and your LDL (the "bad" cholesterol) below 100 mg/dL. This should be tested once a year.
Tracking your ABCs gives you real insight into how well you're managing diabetes. During American Diabetes Month, KentuckyCare encourages you to schedule an appointment and ask your provider: What are my ABC numbers, and what should they be?
