My average new patient has been to 3-4 medical specialists . They have been given different diagnoses like Long Covid , Mast Cell Activation Syndrome , Histamine Intolerance , Pots Syndrome , Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and more . - They have been told maybe autoimmune but we cant pinpoint it or maybe involves the vagus nerve or you have some kind of inflammation that is all we can tell.

The truth is you didn’t get this way overnight . I read the histories so I know many of you have had childhood trauma which started a dysregulation of the immune system . You have had physical traumas or head injuries . You have been exposed to mold , had tick bites or suffered chronic infections . Your cup was just about to the top but you were making it ok . But then came Covid or relationship stress or another factor that tipped your bucket and now you have all these issues

Conventional medicine wants to give you a one dimensional answer to a multi- dimensional problem and it just doesn’t work. In fact the treatments may even make you worse.

How to improve . Well your going to have to go outside the medical system . Even the average non-medical provider who is a one trick pony cant do it either. Someone has to be willing to address your neurological function especially of your autonomic nervous system . They have to address your “ autoimmune like “ responses , your histamine intolerance and your chronic low grade infections . They have to look at your cardiovascular and blood vessel health . They have to look at your inflammation and cellular energy production .

My whole career has been about the chronic patient . I have taken so many courses and programs in functional neurology and what others would call functional medicine. In 42 years I have moved past so much that doesn’t work and focused on what does work for chronic patients . I developed the HIDN®️ Model of healthcare and trademarked it for its use with chronic patients .

I am training the younger generation but that is a lengthy process . There are no similar skills sets to my knowledge in this region . If I had problems like I have talked about above I would get under the care of our office while you still can . Call or text 270-554-2141

Your body needs rest to avoid worsening. Basically damage control . But you rest over teh weekend and health isn't better , repeat again and again But healing requires addressing why rest fails to restore function.

Mitochondrial dysfunction means cellular energy production stays impaired regardless of rest duration. Your mitochondria cannot self-repair without support. NAD+ precursors, methylation cofactors, antioxidants provide what damaged energy pathways need to rebuild.

Dysautonomia means autonomic nervous system stays stuck in sympathetic dominance during rest. Your nervous system cannot self-regulate back to balance. It may need some balancing input to reboot.

Endothelial dysfunction means blood vessels stay inflamed and poorly responsive regardless of rest. Your endothelium cannot self-heal without reducing vascular inflammation and integrity.

Rest creates the conditions for repair. But repair requires active intervention when biological systems cannot execute healing processes independently.

Think of a broken bone. Rest prevents making the fracture worse. But severe fractures need casting, sometimes surgery. Complex breaks do not heal from rest alone. Your biological systems are complex breaks, not simple strains. With chronic issues your going to need some help to get this all going.

Weekend rest keeps you stable. Proper care moves you toward actual recovery. Both are necessary. Neither alone is sufficient.

Are we " sensitive" to heat or do we have poor endothelial lining of our blood vessels , low cellular energy and autonomic nervous system dysfunction ? again a share from Robert Groysman MD

You can't tolerate heat. Hot showers feel suffocating. Summer weather triggers crashes. Exercise is impossible. You overheat fast and crash hard.

People say "just drink water." But this is different.
Dysautonomia disrupts your autonomic nervous system's ability to regulate temperature and blood flow. In heat, your blood vessels should dilate to dissipate warmth. But with dysautonomia, blood pools in your extremities instead of circulating effectively, heart rate spikes, blood pressure drops, and you feel dizzy, nauseous, and exhausted.

Mast cells are heat-activated. Heat exposure triggers histamine release, causing flushing, sweating, rapid heart rate, anxiety-like sensations, and sometimes hives or itching. This amplifies the autonomic reaction.

Mitochondrial dysfunction means your cells already struggle with energy production. Heat increases metabolic demand, your body needs more energy to cool itself but your mitochondria can't keep up. The result: rapid exhaustion and delayed crashes after heat exposure.

Endothelial dysfunction in small blood vessels impairs efficient heat dissipation and blood flow regulation, making you overheat faster and recover slower.

Heat intolerance with rapid heart rate, next-day crashes, flushing, or mood changes points to autonomic, mast cell, and mitochondrial mechanisms, not just "being sensitive."

This is real thermoregulatory dysfunction. Understanding it helps you protect your system and pace appropriately.

Great info on oxygenation and long covid from Robert Groysman MD - I totally agree

Your oxygen saturation reads 98%. You still can't catch your breath. Walking to the mailbox leaves you gasping.
Doctors tell you your lungs are fine. Pulmonary function tests are normal. "Maybe it's anxiety."

But here's what they're missing: The problem isn't oxygen in your blood. It's oxygen getting to your tissues.
Endothelial dysfunction damages the lining of your blood vessels. These cells regulate blood flow, manage inflammation, and control how oxygen moves from blood into tissues. In Long COVID, they're compromised.
Imagine your circulatory system as a delivery service. The trucks (blood) are loaded with packages (oxygen). But if the roads are damaged and delivery drivers can't access buildings, packages sit in trucks while addresses go unserved.

Your lungs load oxygen into your blood perfectly—that's why your pulse oximeter reads normal. But damaged blood vessels can't efficiently deliver that oxygen to muscles, organs, and brain tissue.
Microclots may form. Vessels may constrict inappropriately. Inflammation disrupts normal blood flow patterns.

The result: Tissue hypoxia despite normal blood oxygen saturation. Your cells are starving for oxygen while your blood is fully loaded.
This explains the air hunger, the sighing, the feeling you can't get a satisfying breath. Your body senses tissue-level oxygen deficit and tries to compensate by breathing more.

Addressing vascular dysfunction, not just lung function, often improves oxygen.

Did you know the vagus nerve is the longest of your cranial nerves, extending from the brainstem all the way down to the large intestine? True to its name, which means “wandering” in Latin, the left vagus nerve travels down the left side of your body, while the right runs along the right—forming a crucial link between your brain and major organs like the heart, lungs, and digestive tract.

This remarkable nerve is at the heart of your parasympathetic nervous system, helping to control processes like digestion, heart rate, immune activity, and even emotional balance.

By understanding the route of the vagus nerve, we gain insight into how the brain communicates with the body to maintain health and equilibrium. Curious about the amazing ways your nervous system supports you? Follow us for more insights!

Sitting in my car after my appointment it dawned on me. We go to appointments to feel better and have a better quality of life. We tell the Doctors what is not feeling right and hope they're able to make improvements. Then when we see improvements we seldom pass those successes on to the ones trying to help us. I personally have seen improvements since coming to WINTERS WELLNESS CENTER and while my body is still a work in progress. I want to give a big shout out to Dr. Winters for starting with me on my journey and Dr. Cassie for continuing the journey with me. My quality of life has gotten better and I want to thank you all so very much. Keep making a difference in people's lives and keep excelling at what you do.

While the picture here is super simple this is the idea of what we are working with . Vagus nerve is a hot topic now and we are perfectly positioned to help with it's regualtion .

One of the approaches we use is The "Macdonald Safety Corridor" which isn't about physical road construction but a polyvagal-informed chiropractic protocol by Dr. Don MacDonald, focusing on creating nervous system safety for better adjustments, targeting areas like the skull base, ribs, and pelvic floor for neurological regulation, not general "anterior body work" (which sounds like surgery), but rather a subtle, safety-focused way to adjust the spine and soft tissues for better patient outcomes.

What it is (Chiropractic Context):
Nervous System Focus: It's a framework to help chiropractors understand when a patient's nervous system is truly ready for an adjustment, moving beyond just mechanical movement to neurological regulation.

Polyvagal Theory: It integrates Stephen Porges' Polyvagal Theory, helping practitioners identify and release defensive patterns in the body.

"Five Locks": The protocol uses an analogy of "locks" in the body, focusing on the base of the skull (Lock One) and upper ribs/muscles (Lock Two) to ensure free-flowing pathways for safety signals.

Beyond Mechanics: It teaches chiropractors to connect with the patient's neurological state to create deeper, more sustainable changes, making care feel safer and more effective.

People are loving this work we do and Dr . Cassie understands and does it also.

Our Story

The HIDN® Model of Health Restoration is a systems approach to helping people recover from chronic health issues by helping them get truly healthy. The HIDN® model looks for any hidden loss of function and works to restore that function. There are 4 key areas of assessment Hormonal, Immune, Detoxification and Neurological.

Those four areas are assessed within the patient history , examination and any appropriate follow up testing. Following assessment we can use natural nutritional or homeopathic support for balancing the hormonal system, strengthening and balancing the immune system and making sure the detoxification pathways are working well. We have pulsed magnetic therapy ( PEMF ) to accelerate tissues healing.

For the neurological component we have brain balance adjustments which balance left and right brain without any twisting or popping. We have Quantum Neuro Reset Therapy (QNRT ) which resets the brain in relationship to stress trauma and Quantum Neurology which up-regulates the nervous system for accelerated healing. We also have multiple forms of neurofeedback which using computer technology to train the brain for more efficient function.

All services and techniques in addition to the chiropractic adjustment are provided as adjunctive care to the nervous system in accordance with KRS 312. If at any time on this page we mention a free or discounted service " You have the right to rescind within 72 hours any obligation to pay for services performed in addition to the free or discounted service."
