As severe weather approaches, we urge all residents to review safety measures for driving conditions and medical equipment reliance.
- Driving Safety
Reduce speed significantly, as stopping distances increase on icy roads.
Maintain smooth control by avoiding sudden braking, acceleration, or sharp turns.
Increase following distance and be aware that bridges and overpasses freeze first.
Limit non-essential travel to stay safe and keep roads clear.
- Power-Dependent Medical Equipment
For individuals using power-reliant medical devices:
Establish a backup power plan utilizing battery packs, generators, or alternative locations.
Ensure all batteries are fully charged before the storm arrives.
Plan for relocation if a prolonged power outage occurs.
Keep emergency contact information readily available.
-Fall Prevention
Porches and sidewalks may look good after snow removal but can be extremely slick. Using extra salt and having slip-resistant shoes/boots with good tread on the soles are good ideas. Walk slowly with short steps. Keep hands out of pockets and use arms as balance. Use hand rails when available.
Your preparation helps manage high call volumes and potential response time delays during winter storms, allowing emergency services to prioritize critical needs.
-If you have to call 911 for any type of emergency involving EMS, Fire or Law Enforcement please know that we may have an extended response time due to road conditions but we will be there.
