Creating the Space...Honoring the Body...Caring for the Soul
Anowara Yoga & Wellness LLC is located in the heart of the Mohawk Valley in the historic Palatine Schoolhouse at 59 W. Grand Street in Palatine Bridge, NY. Named for the strength, stability, and peacekeeping attributes of the turtle or “anowara” as spoken by the native Mohawk tribe, this studio specializes in restorative yoga with the unique ability to provide foundational yoga therapeutics. Karen Clark, owner and certified restorative yoga instructor, received her restorative yoga training from Ann Saffi Biasetti, LCSW, PhD who is nationally-recognized as an author, certified yoga therapist and licensed psychotherapist in Saratoga Springs, NY. Karen has more than 800 certified hours of yoga training with 300+ training hours in restorative practice.
Restorative yoga is a passive practice of stillness in the mind and body. The intentional use of props (blankets, bolsters, blocks, weighted sandbags and eye pillows, etc.) allows the body to be fully supported in all positions. As the body releases, it enters into a very deep state of rest and relaxation which promotes health and well-being. The instructor guides participants through a centering meditation and poses selected for the practice, mindfully attending to proper positioning, comfort and safety. Each session is closed with re-centering or integration and opportunity for reflection. Participants generally experience a significant shift in sensations from the beginning to the end of a session, and find that they can access a different level of self-awareness outside of the yoga studio. Restorative yoga is a beautiful component of any self-care practice.
Class size is limited to four participants and requires reservations in advance. Individual sessions are arranged privately at the convenience of the student and instructor. All equipment is provided by the studio; no prior experience or knowledge of yoga is required. Restorative yoga truly is a practice for every body!
