Jesus calls the Synagogue of Satan out, personally. Like He did the money changers in the temple. They're both, one in the same. 100% FACT, not false. The content below spells it out for anyone who would like to understand this area of scripture.โ๐ป๐๐๐ผ
We all know Revelation is packed full of end times prophecy. Today we're going to unpack who the Jew is and who God's chosen people are, truly. ๐
โI know thy works and tribulation and poverty (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them, which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.โ ๐ฟ
-Revelation 2:9
The verse is addressed to the church in Smyrna, modern day Izmir, which is a major city on the western coast of Turkey, along the Aegean Sea. ๐
The following verse makes their existence undeniable:
โBehold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan (which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie) behold, I say, I will make them that they shall come and worship before thy feet, and shall know that I have loved thee.โ
-Revelation 3:9
Who opposed the church:
Most scholars identify the group as local Jewish communities in Smyrna who rejected the Christian claim that Jesus was the Messiah and accused or reported Christians to Roman authorities. That pressure contributed to persecution of the church. Sound familiar? ๐ฎ๐ฑ
What Jesus said/meant:
โthos who say they are Jews and are notโ
In the New Testament, โJewโ can be used spiritually, not only ethnically. The idea appears in Romans 2:28โ29, where a true Jew is one inwardly, whose heart is aligned with God, A.K.A Jesus. By that definition, those opposing Christ and His followers were not acting as Godโs covenant people, even if ethnically Jewish. ๐ซ
What does the Bible say who the real Jews are and are not?
โFor he is not a Jew, which is one outward: neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
But he is a Jew, which is one within, and the circumcision is of the heart, in the spirit, not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God.โ
-Romans 2:28โ29
A true Jew is defined spirituallyโone whose heart is aligned with God, not merely someone with outward identity or lineage.
Who are the descendants of Abraham?
โKnow ye therefore, that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.โ
-Galatians 3:7
โAnd if ye be Christโs, then are ye Abrahamโs seed, and heirs by promise.โ
-Galatians 3:29
This does NOT say that the church replaced God's chosen people but is DOES say that followers of Christ were grafted into the Abrahamic promises.
โThough some of the branches be broken off, and thou being a wild olive tree, wast graft in for them, and made partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree,
Boast not thyself against the branches: and if thou boast thyself, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.โ
-Romans 11:17โ18
โAnd they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graft in: for God is able to graft them in again.
For if thou wast cut out of the olive tree, which was wild by nature, and wast grafted contrary to nature in a right olive tree, how much more shall they that are by nature, be grafted into their own olive tree?โ ๐ฟ
-Romans 11:23โ24
God did allow SOME of the Jews, who were supposed to be the only chosen ones, to fall away, to make room for us as Gentile believers, but He has kept His remnant from the beginning of the Judean faith.
โI demand then, Have they stumbled, that they should fall? God forbid: but through their fall salvation cometh unto the Gentiles, to provoke them to follow them.โ
โFor if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving be, but life from the dead?โ
-Romans 11:11 & 11:15
โEven so then at this present time is there a remnant according to the election of grace.โ
Romans 11:5
Paul does not frame this as replacement, only a temporary stumbling, not permanent rejection
Natural branches can return. Gentiles depend on Israelโs root. At some point in history, a Jew told a g
Gentile about Jesus. That's all there is to it.
โThou bearest not the root, but the root thee.โ
-Romans 11:18
Israelโs future restoration is expected.
โAnd so all Israel shall be saved"
-Romans 11:26
