John Yonushonis, Dr. Jones-Poland's beloved step-father, life was a testament to strength, partnership, and perseverance.

John was more than a patient—he was a fighter, a partner, and a source of inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Even two weeks before he passed, John was still fighting, still showing up, still lifting weights, and still choosing strength in the face of every obstacle.

His commitment to his care, his willingness to listen, and the partnership he shared with Ann played a powerful role in his journey. Together, they showed what it means to face Parkinson’s as a team. They proved that the caregiver and patient mindset must work hand in hand to truly make a difference.

John didn’t let Parkinson’s define him—he chose to rise above it. He is proof that even in the face of Parkinson’s, you can still choose to keep going and defy the odds.

His legacy will continue to inspire all who hear his story. ❤️

Behind every person living with Parkinson’s is a caregiver giving their all—every single day.

Ann Yonushonis shares her story of being a full-time caregiver for her late husband, John, for 20 years after his Parkinson’s diagnosis. Caregiving is often unseen, yet it requires constant strength, patience, and sacrifice. As Ann shares, it’s truly a “36-hour-a-day job.”

She speaks on the importance of caregivers taking time to rest, reset, and care for themselves—because their well-being directly impacts the care they give. The Alzheimers Coachella Valley Care Partners Group became a place of support and community during this challenging journey.

While it can be difficult to accept help, Ann reminds us how important it is to bring in support early, and how her family and loved ones stepped in to help carry the weight.

In honor of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, Dr. Jones-Poland and Ann Yonushonis visited Alzheimers Coachella Valley, and met with Paula, Executive Director, and Dee, Parkinson's Group Facilitator, to learn more about the incredible support they provide to those living with Parkinson’s.

📍Their Parkinson’s Support Group meets every Tuesday at 2:30 PM and is designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s, as well as their care partners and loved ones.

This group creates a space for connection. It's safe, non-judgmental environment where individuals can share their experiences, gain emotional support, and exchange practical advice on navigating Parkinson’s.

Participants meet in separate groups—one for individuals with Parkinson’s and one for care partners—each guided by a dedicated facilitator, allowing for open and meaningful conversations.

If you or someone you love is navigating Parkinson’s, know that you don’t have to do it alone. Support is here in our community at Alzheimer’s Coachella Valley. ❤️
