Root Causes of Hashimoto’s

Many factors increase thyroid disease risk, but there are 4 true root causes:

• Genetics
• Age
• Female s*x
• Inappropriate iodine

🧬 Genetics: If an identical twin has thyroid disease, your risk is over 70%. These genes affect how the body handles iodine.

⏳ Age: Risk rises with each decade, especially after pregnancy and during perimenopause.

♀️ Women: Women are 6–10x more likely to develop thyroid disease due to immune and X-chromosome genetics.

🧂 Iodine: Essential—but too much (or even slightly excess in sensitive people) can trigger disease.

👉 Iodine is the only root cause we can change.
Research shows correcting iodine intake can improve—even reverse—Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism.

Are you taking your thyroid meds the right way? 🫣
Most people aren’t told this… and it can be the reason symptoms linger even when you’re “doing everything right.”

Here’s what many people aren’t told:

✨ Thyroid meds work best on an empty stomach
They should be taken 30–60 minutes before food, drinks, supplements, or other medications. Even coffee can get in the way!

✨ Some supplements block absorption
Calcium, iron, and many antacids need to be spaced at least 4 hours apart from thyroid medication.

✨ Small mistakes can create big symptoms
Fatigue, hair loss, weight changes, dry skin, and brain fog can all show up when your body isn’t absorbing your medication fully—even if you’re on the correct dose.

Your genes don’t have to determine your thyroid health.

Some people carry a genetic predisposition to hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s. If thyroid issues run in your family, your mother, sister, grandmother, or aunt, you’re at higher risk.

But here’s what matters most: many women with thyroid problems have no family history at all.

Whether you have the genes or not, something still needs to activate the condition. And catching these triggers early makes all the difference especially if you’re experiencing:

➡️ Subclinical hypothyroidism
➡️ Elevated thyroid antibodies with “normal” hormone levels
➡️ Symptoms despite being on a low dose of medication
➡️ Borderline labs that don’t yet warrant treatment
➡️ Thyroid levels that fluctuate between normal and underactive
