Massage helps reduce pain, stiffness and increase mobility in patients who suffer from osteoarthritis. Many suffer from this painful joint degeneration, but those who seek help through massage therapy experience a much higher quality of life and often no longer have to medicate with over the counter pain medications.

A recent study found that a 60-minute "dose" of Swedish massage therapy delivered once a week for pain due to osteoarthritis of the knee was both optimal and practical, establishing a standard for use in future research.
