Inexpensive, versatile, and high-impact.

Pool noodles are a staple for motor planning and body awareness.

The Balance Bridge: Slice them in half lengthwise and tape them to the floor for a "wobbly" balance beam to challenge the vestibular system.

Bilateral Batting: Have the child hold the noodle with both hands to hit a balloon, encouraging the two sides of the brain to work together.

Noodle Horse: Use the noodle as a "horse" for galloping or jumping over obstacles to work on rhythmic movement and coordination.

Feed the Wiggly Worm: As parent moves the noodle in front of child, have them try to follow it to put small beads to "feed the worm" or place small rings on it to encourage visual tracking, visual and fine motor skills and bilateral integration.

Mini traffic cones aren't just for sports; they are incredible for spatial awareness and sequencing.

The Slalom Crawl: Set them up in a line and have the child crawl in a "serpentine" pattern to work on bilateral integration and spinal mobility.

Target Toss: Place cones at different distances and have the child "ring" them with mini rings or toss beanbags, working on visual-spatial judgment.

The Sequence Run: Number the cones. Have the child touch them in a specific order (1-4-2-3) to build working memory and executive function.

Crazy 8 tracing: Place two cones on floor in front of child standing on a balance pad or board. With a long stick or pool noodle have the child make a sideways 8 pattern to work on crossing midline, bilateral integration, visual motor skills and motor planning.

Why do we spend so much time on "wobbly" surfaces? Because balance is the foundation of attention and strength!

Standing on a Bosu Ball challenges the vestibular system (balance) and the proprioceptive system (body awareness) simultaneously. If a child’s "internal GPS" is glitchy, they can’t focus on a teacher or a book.

We also added in a fun head laser to trace a large maze on the wall to work on visual motor integration and motor planning challenges.

We use these "Roots Up" tools to strengthen the communication between the feet, the spine, and the brain.

Once the body is stable, the mind can be still.
