🚨 DID YOU KNOW? CPR USED TO LOOK VERY DIFFERENT! 🚨
Before modern CPR was developed, people relied on techniques like the Silvester Method and the Holger Nielsen Method to try to revive someone who wasn’t breathing.
💡 Silvester Method (1858):
Rescuers would lay a patient flat, raise their arms above their head to expand the chest, then press the arms down against the chest to push air out. It looked more like arm exercises than a lifesaving skill!
💡 Holger Nielsen Method (1930s):
This one involved laying the person face-down, lifting their arms to open the airway, and pressing on their back to “ventilate.” Imagine trying to teach that in a CPR class today!
Thankfully, research has come a long way.
Today’s CPR methods are evidence-based, far more effective, and focused on high-quality chest compressions, proper ventilation, and real-world response skills.
