Every cancer journey is shaped by individual experiences, challenges, and moments of courage. On World Cancer Day, we pause to honor those stories—and the people behind them.

This year’s theme, , is a reminder that while no two experiences with cancer are the same, we can all contribute to a future where no one has to live with the fear of the disease.

We invite you to reflect with us: Whose story comes to mind when you imagine a world where cancer no longer casts such a long shadow?

Radiation therapy has long been central to cancer care — with 50–70% of patients requiring it during their journey.* But at this year’s meeting, the focus extended far beyond oncology. https://bit.ly/3NxWxdj

Varian’s leadership in the role of radiation therapy for non-cancerous diseases was evident across sessions, from investigator‑led studies to advisory board contributions at the ASTRO Presidential Symposium.

Radiotherapy is being rediscovered, redefined, and expanded — opening new doors for patients and providers alike.

Investing in global health is a long-term commitment—and we’re in it for the long haul.

While our collaboration in Kenya with Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and IU Health has made incredible strides in expanding access, we know the journey is far from over.

Through education, empowerment, and the strengthening of local expertise, the community is building an ecosystem that will enable it to thrive for generations to come.

Together, we’re building a future where healthcare is accessible to everyone, everywhere, and sustained by shared commitment. https://cbsn.ws/3KHLLjY

For cervical cancer patients, adaptive brachytherapy provides highly targeted and personalized treatment options. This technique using advanced hybrid applicators has been shown to reduce toxicities and improve outcomes in gynecological cancers.*

Despite that, adoption of this important technique is limited in lower-middle-income countries where cervical cancer burden is highest, largely due to lack of training.

Earlier this year, Varian Medical Affairs supported a hands-on workshop at INCAN — Guatemala’s largest cancer center — where clinicians discussed image-guided adaptive brachytherapy workflows using Varian’s Aarhus Applicator Set. Now, INCAN is routinely utilizing this treatment workflow, an important milestone for both providers and the ~600 cervical cancer patients the cancer center sees each year.

Training drives access. Technology enables impact. Together, they transform care.

Long-term, committed collaborations are strengthening cancer care around the globe.

In Eldoret, Kenya, the radiology department used to be a branch of the surgery department—staffed by just one radiologist. It has since grown into a fully operational department with 12 radiologists and a comprehensive set of modern treatment tools.

At the heart of this progress is a simple but powerful belief: the foundation of good care starts with building a strong local team.

Our collaboration with Teaching and Referral Hospital and IU Health is focused on just that; ensuring that expertise grows from within rather than relying only on external support. https://cbsn.ws/3KHLLjY

💡SGRT Spotlight🔦

The radiation oncology department at the Hamamatsu University School of Medicine in Japan treats about 600 patients annually for most disease sites, including cranial sites and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

After ten years of research into surface-guided radiation therapy (SGRT) solutions, Professor Nakamura and his team found what they were looking for in IDENTIFY: "We wanted a motion management solution that would fully integrate with the TrueBeam and offer excellent patient monitoring."

In this case study, https://bit.ly/48B9n2S, uncover how IDENTIFY for SGRT has helped Professor Nakamura and his team:
🔸 Enhance patient positioning accuracy, including real-time monitoring and motion management
🔸Perform non-invasive verification
🔸Reduce patient setup time with tattooless workflows and faster treatment times
🔸Improve respiratory motion management, including use of breath hold techniques
🔸Enable the exploration of maskless SRS treatments
🔸Increase patient comfort

The statement by Varian’s customer described here is based on results achieved in the customer’s unique clinical setting. Because there is no “typical” clinical setting and many variables exist, there is no guarantee that other customers will achieve the same results.

“A world without fear of cancer” ... “We pioneer breakthroughs in healthcare. For everyone. Everywhere. Sustainably.”

These aren’t just the mission statements of Varian and Siemens Healthineers, they’re promises.

And thanks to our deep collaboration with Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and IU Health, cancer patients in Kenya are experiencing what happens when these promises become reality.

The camaraderie between these institutions is breaking down some of the biggest barriers to cancer care in Kenya. There is now hope for patients who once faced delayed diagnosis or who had to travel hundreds of kilometers for care.

This is just the beginning. https://bit.ly/48KYkEh
