Dear Students,

The formally known Trauma Student Group is back in action with a new name: Association for Trauma Studies at PAU! Please join us on Thursday, June 4th from 6:30-8:00 in Wisniewski Hall, to learn more about the Trauma Area of Emphasis and how to get involved with the group. Dr. Lisa Brown will be discussing the recent changes she has made to the area of emphasis in order to offer students an education in line with the New Haven Trauma Competencies. In addition, we are searching for motivated students who would like to get involved on the leadership board and within the community. The event is open to all students whether or not you are interested in the Area of Emphasis or joining the group, so feel free to stop by and check it out!

Food (fajita bar!) and drinks will be provided, please RSVP to TSG@paloalotu.edu or HMuller@paloaltlou.edu. We look forward to seeing you there!

Best,
The Association for Trauma Studies at PAU

•Come hear the stories of nine remarkable girls who are striving beyond circumstance, pushing past limits and demonstrating extraordinary strength of human spirit to overcome odds.
•The film carries a powerful message: if we educate girls, we can change the future of 66 million girls around the world who only dream of going to school.
•On April 15th Boko Haram Terrorists in Nigeria kidnapped around 300 young girls from their school. Recently, a Boko Haram leader released a video stating that these girls will be sold on the international human market. Come learn how the US is responding and how you can make a difference.
•Twitter and the Girl Rising Foundation started the campaign to raise awareness as of May 7th, has been tweeted 1.3 millions times and 30 protests worldwide have been held against the abduction and the government’s response.

Today was an excellent day at the Pacific Research Forum at Palo Alto University! There were over 15 trauma-focused posters presented and at least ten considered for the TSG award. Congratulations to Christine T. Schmidt, who was awarded the TSG Outstanding Poster in Trauma Research Award! Her poster, "History of Trauma in Mock Jurors and its Impact on Death Qualification Status, Evaluations of Aggravating and Mitigating Factors, and Sentencing Decision in a Capital Trial" displayed a commitment to trauma-informed research, strong methodology, cultural sensitivity, and overall scientific originality. Cheers!
