Today, we pause to remember the lives lost and the bravery shown on December 7, 1941, a day that forever changed our nation.

At VA Palo Alto, we honor the legacy of the 2,403 service members and civilians who perished in the attack on Pearl Harbor, and we reflect on the resilience of the Greatest Generation.

Their courage in the face of adversity reminds us why we serve , to care for those who have borne the battle.

๐ŸŒŸ Honoring Our Volunteers on International Volunteer Day ๐ŸŒŸ

Today, we proudly recognize and thank the extraordinary volunteers who serve across our facilities!

These compassionate individuals are the warm smiles that greet Veterans at the door, the helping hands that guide them to appointments, and the listening ears that offer comfort and connection. Many have dedicated thousands of hours each year, with some volunteering for many, many years, a true testament to their unwavering commitment.

Whether they are Veterans themselves, connected through family, or simply driven by a desire to give back, their impact is immeasurable. ๐Ÿ’™

We also extend our deepest gratitude to our Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) team, who work tirelessly behind the scenes, coordinating volunteers, managing donations, and ensuring every act of kindness reaches those who need it most.

Since its founding in 1946, CDCE has grown into one of the largest centralized volunteer programs in the federal government, supported by over 7,400 national and community organizations. Together, volunteers have contributed more than 760 million hours of service and nearly $1.9 billion in gifts and donations.

To every volunteer, thank you. Your dedication uplifts lives and strengthens our mission every single day. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

With 20 new U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs health care clinics opened since January, weโ€™re expanding access to ensure Veterans get the health care choices theyโ€™ve earned. And when eligible Vets canโ€™t come to us, weโ€™ll pay for them to see a non-VA provider.
