CHC Providing life-changing support for mental health and learning differences, for kids and young adults

02/03/2026

Last week, CHC and REEL hosted Walk a Mile in Their Minds, bringing together clinicians, educators, and local practitioners for an immersive simulation experience.

Through activities focused on dyslexia, ADHD, and sensory overload, including the powerful Make It Stop video, participants gained deeper insight into the daily realities many neurodivergent and 2e learners navigate.

Events like these help strengthen understanding, build more responsive support systems, and empower our community to show up with greater empathy for every learner.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an evening of reflection, connection, and continued learning. A big thank you to Abby Kirigen, Yael Valek, and Dianna Sadler for collaborating and leading the simulation!

Any wildlife detectives out there? 🐦🐿️

Thanks to PeckPerk, our new bird feeder camera is live at Sand Hill School
So far, we’ve spotted a bird and a very curious squirrel stopping by.

Watching birds gives the brain a gentle break, and now we get to enjoy it together.

Can you guess what species our first visitors are?

Staying informed shouldn’t cost you your peace.

If the news cycle is leaving you tense, irritable, or stuck in scrolling, try shifting from “always on” to “on purpose.” Choose when you check updates, and give yourself permission to step away when you feel your body ramping up. Afterward, take a brief pause to come back to the present so the rest of your day isn’t shaped by constant urgency.

Taking breaks doesn’t mean you don’t care. It means you’re protecting your capacity to keep showing up.

Engaging practice that strengthens spelling.

Our SHS students had a fun time practicing writing high-frequency words, the common “everyday” words they see often in reading and writing (like the, and, to).

Using chalk and a teacher-made dot-to-dot guide, they traced each word with big, movement-based strokes to reinforce correct spelling and build memorization.

It’s a playful way to build strong spelling skills, boost memory, and help learning stick.

It’s okay to say: today was hard.

CHC's CEO, Ryan Eisenberg, EdD reminds us that naming tough days – and remembering that tomorrow is a new one – helps young people build resilience and self-compassion. 💛

Sand Hill Summer is a fun, structured program for students entering grades 2–8 with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences. Students receive evidence-based academic instruction (reading, writing, spelling, and math support) along with executive functioning and social-emotional skill-building, all in a nurturing environment where they can grow and enjoy being kids.

We're expanding: Our longtime Palo Alto program now includes a new San Jose location, making it easier for more families to access the support their child needs to build momentum and head into fall feeling ready.
