Lauren Taylor, a patient at Collage Home & Community Rehabilitation Partners in Austin, Texas, recently engaged in printmaking with Art Therapist, Deborah Trejo.

Beyond creating beautiful artwork, she diligently worked towards her recovery objectives. Supported by Stephanie Ruiz (CTRS) and Kristina Magaha (OT), Lauren practiced using her right arm and developed creative methods to adapt her grip following her 2025 stroke. In addition to the physical exercises, the session provided an environment for Lauren to connect with others, enhancing her confidence in both speech and word retrieval. We are immensely proud of Lauren's progress!

Beyond treatment plans, social workers ensure patients and their families receive the emotional support and resources necessary for their well-being. We extend our sincere gratitude for their unwavering advocacy, empathy, and expertise - making the path to recovery possible.

Former patient Fernando, who received care at Collage Home & Community Rehabilitation Partners in Austin, Texas was involved in a 2023 motorcycle accident where he sustained a traumatic brain injury and an incomplete spinal cord injury. With his transdisciplinary team's help, Fernando returned to his passion for art and created a painting that was auctioned off in September 2025 to raise money for the arts and inclusion. Fernando participated in various community meet-ups to work on social goals as seen by Fernando working with current patient, Lauren to complete a painting class. His therapy team integrated his interest into physical goals by having the patient visit several art museums to work on standing tolerance and endurance while navigating new obstacles like carpet, doorways, and ramps.

At Learning Services, we believe that connection is the heart of recovery. This month, our North Carolina programs celebrated Recreational Therapy Month with a creative twist on the APIE process we use daily.

By turning "Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation" into a "Pie Your RT" event, our team fostered a sense of community and joy for both residents and staff.
