Meet Daniel, a brain injury survivor and patient at Collage Home & Community Rehabilitation Partners in Houston, Texas!
Daniel started with Collage Home & Community Rehabilitation Partners following a brain injury, requiring total assistance for bed mobility, dressing, hygiene, and toileting, and he depended on a Hoyer lift for all transfers. Recently, he achieved a major milestone by attending a community outing to Dig World with Occupational Therapy and Therapeutic Recreation. He helped plan the outing himself, including the cost of admission and timing of the trip. After learning about his journey, the facility even gifted the group free vouchers for the experience.
During the outing, he completed more than 15 transfers between his power scooter and multiple pieces of equipment, including a golf cart, motorized cart, excavator, and backhoe. Depending on the equipment, he required anywhere from minimal to maximal assistance, but he was able to actively engage his legs and maintain trunk balance throughout.
This experience highlights the incredible progress he has made and the impact of skilled therapy in promoting independence, confidence, and community reintegration.
