I’m so excited to announce we have just a few spots left for our first gathering!

Join us for Bread & Butter Births, a cozy prenatal gathering where we’ll share fresh artisan bread (ya girl’s a baker 💁🏾‍♀️), enjoy a light lunch, and talk about preparing for a birth smooth as butter.

Local birth worker and childbirth educator Michaela Gray (.academy) will guide a conversation about the physiological birth process and how we can support our bodies during pregnancy to help labor unfold naturally.

We’ll end with a Q&A, and everyone will take home a pre-prepped artisan bread dough ready to bake in their own oven.

Come enjoy community, fresh bread and birth education

Saturday, March 21 11am – 1pm
$25 per mom

Limited spots remaining.
Message me to reserve one!

Before hospitals dominated birth, there were the Granny Midwives.

Black women in the American South who carried generations of birth knowledge, cared for entire communities, and safely delivered thousands of babies long before obstetrics became what it is today.

They were teachers, healers, advocates, and protectors of mothers and babies.

Yet many of these women were pushed out of their work through racism, regulation, and the rise of hospital birth; even as modern obstetrics adopted many of the practices they had been using for generations.

Today on National Black Midwives Day, I honor the women who laid the foundation for midwifery and maternal care in this country.

Their wisdom, resilience, and commitment to community care shaped the way birth is understood and supported today.

As a Black midwife, I am deeply honored that I’m walking a path they helped clear.

We stand on their shoulders. 🤎

Turns out building a midwifery practices makes you kinda busy!

The past six months have been full of catching babies, supporting mothers, building community, and soaking in all that this little dream has become.

If you’ve been here since the beginning of Ruach even with my lack of posting or just joining thank you for being part of the journey! Who would I be without all of you cool peeps?

I’ll be on here more often, I think, maybe, we’ll see 😉

This Halloween edition isn’t about monsters or ghosts, It’s about the things that should give us chills in maternity care:
Coercion disguised as consent
Fear-based care
Dismissing our bodies and wisdom

Birth doesn’t have to be frightening! With education, support, and respect it’s sacred, powerful, and safe. 🧡

Some moments ask us to pause. To breathe. To remember.
Today on Pregnancy & Infant Remembrance Day we honor the little ones who are forever held in love. 🤍

Tiny lives who whispered love into the world, the hearts that beat for only a moment.

To the parents who carry love in the shape of longing,
you are not alone.
Your baby’s light still shines through you, illuminating a love that time cannot fade.

Tonight at 7pm, we join the Wave of Light a candle for every life, a glow for every story, a prayer for every heart.

Did you know cutting the cord isn’t the only way to separate baby from their placenta?

Cord burning is a gentle, ceremonial alternative. It’s done after the cord has completely stopped pulsing, allowing families to slow down, connect with the moment, and honor baby’s transition to life outside the womb.

All you need is a cord burning box (or even a pan wrapped in foil), two candles, and a little patience. Some families use this time to share blessings, hopes, or intentions for their baby’s life as the cord slowly separates. (Ask me if I cry every time hearing their words 🥲)
Cord burning makes for a beautiful way to bring reverence and mindfulness into the first moments earthside.

Would you choose cord burning for your birth?
