Finding Balance & Presence During the Holiday Season
The holidays can get busy, but they’re also a beautiful opportunity to return to Santosha — the yogic practice of contentment, gratitude, and being fully present with what is.
Here are some ways to stay grounded:
• Morning Moment of Stillness
Take 2–5 minutes each morning to breathe deeply before the day begins. Let this be your reminder that peace starts within you.
• Set Small Daily Intentions
Choose one word each day….ease, gratitude, compassion, enough and carry it with you as a guide.
• Practice Santosha by Embracing “Enoughness”
Release the pressure to do it all or make everything perfect. Let what you offer, your time, presence, and energy be enough.
• Slow Down Your Senses
Notice the smell of seasonal spices, the sound of laughter, the glow of lights. Presence grows when you tune in with your senses.
• Pause Before Saying Yes
Choose commitments that nourish you. Santosha blooms when you honor your limits lovingly.
• Mini Grounding Practices
• 4 deep breaths before walking into a gathering
• A quick stretch or mountain pose reset
• A hand over the heart when you feel overwhelmed
• Create “Joy Rituals” Instead of Obligations
Replace stressful traditions with small, meaningful ones—like an evening gratitude reflection or a quiet walk.
• Return to Gratitude
Acknowledge tiny moments of goodness throughout your day. Gratitude and Santosha move hand-in-hand.
• Nourish Yourself Gently
Hydrate, move your body, rest, and choose foods that make you feel good. Contentment comes easier when your body feels supported.
• End the Day with Reflection
Ask yourself: What brought me peace today? What brought me joy? Feel the softness of contentment settling in.
