Valley Health System is proud to announce that the urologic oncology team has successfully performed Valley’s first prostate cancer procedure using the NanoKnife® System. Valley is the first hospital in Bergen County to use the NanoKnife® System for the treatment of prostate cancer, according to the technology’s manufacturer AngioDynamics.

The NanoKnife® System is a minimally invasive form of focal therapy that uses irreversible electroporation (IRE) to target and destroy cancer cells without harming healthy tissue around the cancer site.

Unlike most traditional options that treat the entire gland, for prostate cancer that is confined to just one or a few small areas, the NanoKnife® System allows doctors to treat the cancer precisely, preserve the healthy areas of the prostate, and limit postoperative complications, such as incontinence and erectile dysfunction.

Valley’s board-certified urologists provide comprehensive medical and surgical services for men and women with diseases and disorders of the urinary system and for men with reproductive health issues. They also emphasize screenings and wellness efforts to prevent urologic cancers and to detect them early, when these cancers are most treatable.

In 1952, Valley recorded 3,847 admissions, provided 1,829 emergency treatments, and welcomed 835 babies. Just a few years after opening, the hospital was serving thousands with many essential services, including operating room procedures and diagnostic laboratory tests.

Don't miss out on the upcoming Sibshops event, a fun and supportive program for brothers and sisters (ages 8–12) of children with special needs who receive care at Valley.
